After several months of work (including several drafts and versions), ever since the announcement of this intense, steel monstrosity (Aug. 20, 2009), I am proud to present you with my recreation of Intimidator 305, at Kings Dominion in Doswell Virginia.
In the process of the several track attempts I've tackled in the recent months, I realized how difficult it was to make the track, and yet the file I'm handing out to you today isn't even perfect. This leaves me to say I might consider doing a second version recreation, but not any time soon.
NOTE: I ask that you PLEASE ride the recreation in the Intimidator environment for a more enjoyable ride, and with the modded lift chain texture.
I have to give the most extensive special thanks to the numerous people who have helped me in the making of the ride: Real, Dcs221, Calakapepe, Jakizle, HCL, Flickstah, Ianko66, CPF, Slosprint, Matthew, and Jawharp1992.
And I would need to additionally give thanks to Myriad who gave me his permission to modify his Kilo environment to my "Intimidator" environment.
Ultimately, I hope you enjoy it.
**NOTE: The lift hill in this video is 10mph, because I filmed the video before the media day videos were released, and I went with the lift hill speed in the testing videos. The track package contains a 8 m/s lift, which is roughly around the same speed.
Lol, I understand it's not fixable... but whenever I look at them I feel like my brain's about to explode.
Edit: here is my actual rate.
T: The recreation seemed to be great in the technical department. Gs were a tad high at times but based on the looks of the actual ride I'd say they are just fine. I loved how the double spine was executed on your ride and it seemed to look exactly like the spine on the real I305. It was extremely smooth even for a newton coaster, especially over the quick transitions which are usually extremely hard to pull off although you did so quite nicely. The only bad thing was that the love brake fins were not straight. Gah! 9.25
A: Holy love dude. Things don't get much more intense than this. If the forces alone weren't enough than you also have pacing which rivals, if not beats Maverick's and a drop that is equally if not more kick ass than Millennium Force's. Even though the transitions did seem a wee bit slower than the real ride this still deserves an extremely awesome score. 9.75
Acc: This was possibly one of the best recreations I have seen done and what makes it better is that it was done on a ride which I'd imagine is extremely difficult to recreate, even though I haven't attempted it myself. Everything seemed perfect except for two things. The first is that the transitions seemed slower than real life. This is probably an issue with NL and not your recreation but I thought it worth mentioning anyways. The second is that it seemed like the transition before the brakes and the transition before the hill with the trims were a bit lower to the ground than the real ride. 9
So yeah, an awesome recreation, thanks for the chance to test and download!
Definitely an incredible ride. I can't comment on how well it reflects the actual design, but if I had to guess I'd say pretty damn well.
Not going to rate just yet, but two gripes:
- The final brake fins were crooked?
- The final banking was overdone and over-induced unnecessary lats. The real final curve after the initial brake run has banking that is roughly half of what yours is.
A very accurate recreation. I took a look at the official pov and could not spot a diffidence. This thing packs a powerful punch. It makes Millennium Force look tame. All the G's look to be correct and layout perfect. I only think that 1 support is not there. witch was on the lift I think. Correct me if i'm wrong. Anyways I hope to see more recreations from you in the future.
Thank you very much for saving me thousands of dollars in savings accounts. The ride was so realistic I can now claim I have "experienced it" in a way,
wow just wow, it was a really great recreation, the speed was right on and the trains was cool looking... i gave you a 9 becuuase this is a built ride, but great ride
Nice job, all I see wrong is really that your supports on the last turn have supports that dont connect to the track, and the track on the lift hill isnt connecting to the spine.
I haven't had the pleasure of riding this coaster yet but I am pretty sure from looking at all of the video footage and what not you nailed it......EXCELLENT JOB
Excellent recreation. I have no reason to doubt your forces because your geometry looks accurate, so this must be one hell of a forceful ride! Thanks for committing the necessary time to create something of such quality.
T: Trackwork was excellent, supporting was excellent. Extra marks for altering the visual aspect of the new intamin track and supports - lots of people wouldn't have bothered. Supporting was very good.
A: The fact that the real ride looks really intense helps you out here.
Acc: This isn't the most accurate track, and I can see all your rates on the NL-exchange that give you long lists of inaccuracies; I'm not going to do that, mainly because I think it's sad. What I will say though is that there were things that were in your power to improve, such as those wobbly brake fins, you should have just stuck with the long ones with no gaps (at least it would have made it look better!) Another thing is the final turn into the station, you know as well as I do that it doesnt bank that much, and you can tell that because of the lats produced.
Anyway, that said I think people go overboard with recreations and try and make replicas. What you have is a recreation not a replica and it sure as hell delivered, we could wait years for other people to come out with an inaccurate "replica".
I very much appreciate the effort you have put into this ride and I am glad you haven't spent anymore time on it because you can now achieve other things!
I'd just like to add one more thing that I don't believe was mentioned:
I noticed that the transition after the first airtime hill stayed flat too long. That seems like a key feature to the adrenaline of I305 and you seemed to not surprise the rider like the real ride did.
Very nice! The adrenaline is low, in my opinion, but that's not your fault. I didn't notice any pumps, and it was very smooth! And the 3ds is amazing! It must have taken ages! I wish I could do that... Very nice, and it makes me want to ride it!
BT:
-Track was well made, very smooth, and decent shaping overall, besides some inaccuracies but nothing that made the ride feel unrealistic.
-Supports looked great, as did the track model. There are some spots however that could use some work, mainly the turn off the brakes and the lifthill. There are no support connections in either place so the track just sort of hovers over them. Also, there are no supports on the low turn after the first left to right switch back, when they are clearly there in real life and in the animation.
-I'm not sure what the real thing's forces are like, but yours seemed a little excessive. I know someone else has or will mention the low turns so I won't bother with that, but I will say the air hill that has the brakes on it was a bit too much. If you had braked it as much as the real thing (see accuracy) you would have been fine here I think.
-You need drive wheels on the brakerun and in the station.
-If you made the brake fins one piece it probably would have lined up better.
-Fails Estop due to the use of dummy blocks on the trim hill. Very easy to create a crash situation in manual dispatch.
AD:
-Cant lie here, this is a very fun and intense ride, even in the simulator. This is probably one of the best and most well done gigas in NL because it's not super spread out and actually uses it's speed. I think you did a good job of capturing Intamin's intensity and what they actually feel and ride like, so good job here.
ACC:
-Your ride is nearly 500' too long
-Banking rotation into the first hill wasn't quite right. I think this might actually kick left a little bit, sort of like what the first drop does but far less pronounced. It looks like this is visible in both the animation and POV.
-Rotation in the second hill entry and exit was much to slow. The exit was much better, but the entrance was just wrong. This is even visible in the animated POV, so you could have done better considering.
-Shaping of the left to right switchbacks not quite right. It seemed like you got a better feel for them as the ride went on because they get progressively better, with the first being the worst one and the last being the most realistic of the three.
-Low swooping transition/turn was too drawn out.
-Entrance to the braked airtime hill was way off and too drawn out.
-Brakes over the airtime hill should trim more speed off.
-Entry to the last turnaround way too flat. You pretty much gave this one away with your comparison pic.
-Turn into the brakes doesn't feel right at all. The profile, the banking rotation, it just isn't accurate.
-Can't mark you down for it, but I can't help but think an Anaconda (and maybe Rebel Yell) 3ds export would have added to the scene so much and would have made for a much more realistic setting.
Most of this stuff is pretty easily seen in the animation, so while I think you did good considering the ride wasn't yet built, there are still some inaccuracies that could have been fixed by following the animation closer.
Okay,First Please forgive my rudeness about comment before,But It was such a big problem.... the Final braking LSMs are so odd
T:OMG!!It's Smooth! and just like a real Inti305
the height ,the length are soooooo realistic.Flying around the environment and checking out the track and supports on this project is almost as impressive as riding it.
A: ummm Perfect! Fast pacing Everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and Very INTENSE! I Got almost 4.5G and cause me to maybe blackout!![:D]
O:Track 3ds and supports 3ds looked amazing,this style were great,Keep on it!
Wow! Talk about fast. It seems this coaster never slows down. 90+ m.p.h. around that first ground level turn is really incredible. And the negative G is really powerful over some of the hills. I do wish the track had a few more hills but the way this track changes directions keeps the adrenaline flowing.
Tech: perfect 10
Adrenaline: Don't think it can get any better than this. Another 10
Originality: 10 especially for the work it took to design the special two pipe track. Nice station and transfer track.
Thanks for recreating the Intimidator 305 because I don't think I'll ever get to Kings Dominion.
