Track Description
On May 13th, 2000, Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, OH, unveiled a roller coaster the likes have never been seen. They dubbed this ride Millennium Force. Standing 310ft tall, with a 300ft drop, and reaching speeds of 93 mph, Millennium Force was the biggest and fastest coaster in the world. Today, ten years later, it still ranks in the top two.

Built by coaster manufacturer Intamin rides out of Switzerland, Millennium Force was the first coaster to be called a "Giga" coaster, due to it's height in excess of 300 feet. Millennium Force broke twelve records at the time it opened"

* First ever complete circuit roller coaster to top 300 feet (91 m)

* Tallest complete circuit roller coaster (310 feet (94 m))

* Longest drop on a complete circuit roller coaster (300 feet (91 m))

* Fastest complete circuit roller coaster (92 miles per hour (148 km/h))

* Steepest non-inversion banked turn on a roller coaster (122??????)

* Most rides at an amusement park (68/75)

* Most roller coasters at an amusement park (14/17)

* Most steel roller coasters at an amusement park (12/15)

* Most feet of roller coaster track at an amusement park (44,013ft/53,963ft)

Ride Layout:
While the train is being loaded in the station, the catch car for the cable lift descends the lift and latches onto the middle car of the train. Once the train is cleared, the cable lift pulls the train up a 45 degree lift hill at 15 miles per hour to a height of 310 feet. After reaching the top, the train drops 300 feet down at an 80 degree angle and reaches a top speed of 93 miles per hour at the bottom of the hill. It then climbs 169 feet through a right overbanked turn at 122 degrees from the horizontal axis, then travels through a tunnel as it passes over the Frontier Trail midway. It then travels over a 182-foot parabolic hill, which provides a moment of airtime (zero G-forces) as it passes over a lagoon and down onto Millennium Island. While on Millennium Island, the train completes a 105-foot, 360-degree, right-handed helix, followed by a left overbanked turn and then a small right-hand turn before traveling over another airtime hill to exit the island. After exiting the island, the train travels left through a second tunnel followed by a left turn and a small airtime hill, passing by the queue. Finally, the train travels 68 feet high through another right overbanked turn over the queue and is brought to a stop by magnetic brakes.

Millennium Force is truly an astounding piece of Engineering.

This ride was hand built, so it won't be as perfectly smooth as the real thing. I had to make some sacrifices with some of the detail on this ride. I wanted to put a lot more, but was limited to what could be rendered in a reasonable manner. At one point in time all of my supports got messed up, so they won't be as good looking as they used to be, but they are a lot better now than they were!

Enjoy your record breaking ride on Millennium Force!

*ATTENTION:

If you are having trouble downloading the file, try this:
http://www.mediafire.com/?bq2cnu6ke4waqkb - Zip file of everything.
http://www.mediafire.com/?0z8gid0e2eod9h5 - NL Trackpackage (Day)
http://www.mediafire.com/?q04cas616462wty - NL Trackpackage (Night)

To ride the coaster, you need to unzip the file; put the two folders inside the "Objects" folder (Zambezi Zinger, MF). The same goes for the "Environments" folder files...put them into your "Environments" folder. Then you can unpackage the two tracks.

I used some of Real's textures, as well as his TTD model, so make sure to give him huge props! You may choose to replace his files, or keep them in place with the new ones.

*You do not have my permission to steal this ride. If you want to use it, ask me first!

That was amazing I deleted every Millennium Force recreation I had. It was so unbelievable. The track was so smooth I cannot see a difference from this to the real thing. You are the best and I cannot wait to see more recreations or coasters from you. You are the best re creator on this site!!!

T: Amazing, if this is really a hand-built track. Either way, buttery smooth and great shaping. A few twitches here and there but hardly noticeable. My main gripe is that the banking on the final turn before the last overbank is underbanked. This lead to excessive lats. I'm only complaining because you did an AMAZING job of keeping the lats close to 0 the entire ride, yet they went over .5 here. Again, just nitpicking, but I do feel that this area could have been examined a bit more.

A: MF really isn't that big of an air-monster. That said, you really kept the forces true to the real ride. The air was just on par, and the powerful forces through the over-banked turns were accurate as well.

O: This is more accuracy ... and you did a pretty perfect job with the design overall.

A few last logistical issues:
- This crashes my Sim sometimes
- I dislike the way you packaged it. You should have forgone the supports and just had one track with all the objects and then allow the user to switch the environments. I only say this because switching environments always crashes my Sim with this ride, and both have random missing objects. Overall, just try to do a better job packaging and putting the final touches on the ride.
- Poor optimization of 3Ds. Many things were objects that didn't have to be, and there was no reason my SIM should even start to lag while viewing the lift hill. Granted, the overall image was pleasing, the performance ratio was poor.

Overall, a job well-done.

Freddie, I think you're a little off about the air in the last seat of MF's first drop. I've ridden MF close to 50 times (many of these times being at the end of last season), and in the last row of the last car the forces are incredible. In fact, that's the one area of the coaster where people seem to agree that millennium force(less) is actually forceful. I also question your comment about the air on the second hill. The air really is just about floater, if anything. The pacing is spot on to the real ride.

With all respect, I'd trust a read-out over what you "felt". Even look at this real G-force chart, it shows Bizarro having just over -1 G's! That's nearly double your estimate.

MF's first drop may be not entirely powerful, but it's easily more forceful given you're traveling faster over the peak, the angle is steeper, and the drop is longer. That said, since Bizarro hits 0 G's down the first drop, it's feasible to say that MF goes below that.

Trackword: Perfect recreation of the track
Pacing: Exactly like real life!
Scenery: I like the attention to detail, including Mantis and Dragster in the background!
Detail: Awesome. Now do the causeway :-)
Difficulty: Millennium itself isn't that difficult but adding the scenery around adds points.

Unfortunately I'm not able to download the ride for some reason, so I'm just gonna have to rate judging by the video... Oh well.

Tech: The ride was very good here, with seemingly accurate Gs all the way. Support structure was very nice and realistic. I like the work that went into these aspects of the ride.

Adre: It was great, as the real ride is. Although those large hills seem like they could use some more airtime, the first drop and overbank is amazing to look at.

Accu: This is perfectly accurate to the real thing. Every single detail of the ride seemed to be in this rec. I liked it a lot.

First off, I'd like to say.. BEAUTIFUL! You did an amazing job on this man, I've been following this up until the third page and now it's finally released. Thank you!

Overall, I think its the best recreation I've seen. Granted.. I run on a Windows Vista 64 bit laptop so its pretty buggy from the end of the 182* turn around up until you get off millennium island, but overall.. you did an amazing job!

Everything was crafted so nicely, I just wish there was a little more detail in the que line, I felt that was lacking a little and the train tracks.. I manually put them in, but that's just for decoration. Thank you man.

I can't wait to see your next project. I love the night, but 50% of the time it crashes my NoLimits so I have to reboot it up again. Oh well.

This left me speechless..... The Day version was just Amazing then the Night version took it to a new level.

Only thing that could be changed is how fast the next train is launched... Today, the trains launch when the last car is on the final brake run (or just slowed down to a crawl), yours is a slower...

Other than that, I still have to give 10's because it made me go crazy having to wait 3 days to ride it in person!

This really isn't the place to argue this. I know what I've felt based on my rides on each coaster and one feels significantly stronger than the other one. Despite the speed and angle, MF has a much wider radius and just didn't feel as strong as SROS, which if I remember correctly is -.9 or -1 in the back seat. That is what I am basing this off.

I'm assuming the chart you're looking at is from Rideofsteel.com, and the first hill (assuming that's what you're talking about where you say "double my estimate") is -.6. On the old site he had a bigger image of it, and disregarding noise, the sustained portion was -.6.

The best recreation of a coaster I've seen in a long time. IMO it was perfect and the scenery was as far as I could tell, very accurate along with the ride itself (not to mention very well done here). Thank you so much for recreating this ride, well, the whole kit and kaboodle LOL. From pics I've seen it looks right on and before I die, I'm going to make it to Cedar Point.

I'm sorry, that's just what I remember from my two rides. The first drop felt significantly less strong than SROS', even accounting for the different shaping, and SROS' is around -.8. The two hills I remember very clearly though, first felt exactly like a B&M hill but a little longer sustained, second felt like SROS' first hill which I know for sure is -.6. I've only been on this twice but that's what I remember from it.

Thanks for giving an alternate download location for the ride. I'll try it to see if it works. Since the problem is on my end I doubt if it will work but I'll see. I did download it on my neighbor's cable Internet using coastercrazy.com.

My lowest frames per second was around 55 while on the brake run and topped out at 100 frames per second most of the time while riding the coaster. That's because I have a 512 MB PCI Express video card. So the frame rate was no problem for me.

Tech: I checked roller coaster data base dot com to see the length of the ride 6,595 feet and your track was the same. Very good. Track was super smooth. Supports were exact.

Adrenaline: With all the extra rides and lake and trees made this almost like you were on the ride which increased the adrenaline.

Originality: All the things you added to this ride like the custom station, other coasters, etc., put this ride to the top.

EDIT:
I did notice some trees in the way of the track which I moved. That's the only thing I noticed wrong. Oh, one other thing. I also noticed that I couldn't manually operate the trains for some reason. Don't know why.

Great Recreation! Simply the best I have seen.

Incredible. Best recreation I have ever seen. For being hand-built, it was flawless.
Freddie
May 15th, 2010
seem right to me, it almost seemed too sharp. Not that it pumped, but it seemed like the radius tightened in the middle. After that, the final overbank was missing the lead-in completely and the exit, while having a lead-out, pumped a little and just wasn't shaped right. That said, this is some of the finest handmade trackwork I've seen, and the parts I just mentioned are still better than a lot of what's out there.

-Supports are accurate and look amazing.

-3ds is nice, and I appreciate all the optimization as it's needed on a ride of this scale. But I felt like some of the detail of the immediate surroundings was lost. Using only a single plane for fencing and whatnot looked kind of bad to me, especially since it pretty much disappears unless you're looking at it at the right angle. On the other hand, the terrain and whatnot all looked great.

AD: I'm not sure how to score this really. I'm not a huge fan of MF, I think it has too many drawn out parts and lacks substance. However, your recreation captures the feel of the ride pretty much perfectly, so I really can't give you a bad score. I am however going to dock for come forces that don't seem completely accurate to me. For one, I don't remember the first drop feeling that strong in the back seat. Nothing off for this one as your geometry seems correct, but I don't remember it feeling like -.9 at all.

The ones that do stand out in my mind very strongly however are the two camelbacks, which I distinctly remember the first having very little air, maybe 0g, and the second having light ejector, maybe -.5 or -.6. You seem to fall somewhere in the middle, with -.4 on both of them. I have read this can vary greatly with time of day and wind, but I remember these two parts pretty clearly for my rides on it. So not much off, just something that I personally experienced that wasn't reflected here.

ACC: The biggest issue here is some of the shaping being off. The banking undulation that the real ride has is pretty much nonexsistent here. I feel like this is more of an accuracy issue than a BT one because the track was technically very well built, it was just missing detail.

Length is perfect, you did an amazing job getting that down. Not sure how you do that.

Really not sure what else to say here...My rating is short but I think that's a good thing as I just can't really find much wrong. The look and feel of the ride is incredibly accurate, and given that it's hand built this is just a really great ride all around. By far one of the best recreations ever. Looking forward to seeing the final version of Windigo.

its good now. i just re-downloaded it. there must have been something that corrupted in the download process.

I have a track on this week so I can't give numbers. :
Technical: By far the best MF on the site. None other can compare to it. In the technical factor you excelled. It has a glass smooth track. You must have spent countless hours on the track alone. Your supports were of top notch quality AND accuracy. Your recreation passes all tests. The 3DS were also top notch. They were flawlessly accurate. I felt like I was actually riding the Millennium. 9.75.

Adrenaline: Again, top notch. Although Millennium Force has been criticized for slow pacing and little airtime, I have found through numerous times riding that that is no where near true. The layout is a piece of art. The speed alone going through the first ground level turn is enough for me to piss my pants. And must I mention that Millennium Force is the ONLY coaster that I have blacked out on, every time I rode it. Yours perfectly re-created that adrenaline. 9.75.

Accuracy: As I said before, this is the greatest Millennium Force on the site, and that may not sound like much, but in reality it is. I am so glad to see a true MF recreation, something this site needed. The feel of the ride was spot on. Something that caught my eye was the drop and how perfectly shaped it was. Every other detail was spot on as well. From the sign to the stations to the cable to the queue the 3DS in this ride are absolutely gorgeous. And correct. Your backdrop rides were in their spots, and so was the river. The Environments were great, and the night left me speechless. So beautiful. Everything was beautiful.
10.

Now to reply to other comments:

Disaster: It sounds like you didn't let the file finish downloading before trying to open it. This is a 45mb file we're looking at over here.

While we're at it, I'll put up a short rant on the file: Track packaging. All 3ds's, etc. used by both day and nighttime could've been put into one file with the tracks seperated out. This makes uninstallation much easier but on the other hand, I don't see why anyone would want to uninstall this. =p

As for the bottom lit night environment, I've used it twice too and it really creates an interesting atmosphere, though I don't know if it works as well as it should for the darker areas of a ride. (It works well for dark, low-color environments too.) Despite any shortcomings, bottom-lit is probably the best method for most nighttime situations, as it brings up the brighter points of the ride much better than a regularly positioned light source allows for.

This is by far the best MF around. Compared to the one that ships with NL, it's basically a completely different ride. One thing's for sure; this rec really brought back some memories.

T: Trackwork looks fairly smooth and spot on as far as I could tell; I didn't notice any inaccuracies that stood out. Supports are well detailed, speed is accurate, etc.

A: I'd say NL's low friction mode help considerably; the ride seems to keep pace just like the real thing.

Acc: Overall, the recreation is as close to the real ride as I can tell on NL. All the critical details seem to have been accounted for and the technical aspects match very closely.

Other: The surrounding scenery definitely helps to the experience and most of it is fairly accurate (except for the trees growing from the concrete of course). The nighttime mode is pretty cool too; merely changing the support colors makes it look rather convincing from a distance. (I was thinking more along the lines of using 3DS alphas to simulate the lighting; here the lights on the ground weren't modeled.)

I'd like to bring up 3DS optimization though (which I do pretty much every time), mainly because my computer isn't terribly up to date (Geforce 8200M graphics), but also because optimization means you can put more detail to the scene. A ton of objects, some high detailed, had many wasted polygons. The insides of the 4-sided railings can be removed, as well as the endcaps of those railings. On the footers, it seems that more sides per cylinder were used than needed, and removing their caps would've freed up more polys. My guess is that you used Sketchup to model these items, which it does not do a very good job of.

With those extra polys, you can increase the detail on items like the ride op and other objects around, avoiding the use of flat polys on the way. The flatness of the tunnels also stood out, though not as much as the fact that they'd be much better if darkened.

In addition, the terrain wasn't cleaned up too well. Some of the blue terrain protrudes the template and overall, it probably wasn't necessary to use high detailed terrain. A few textures were stretched to oblivion and didn't look too clean, but some of the texture blending was done very effectively. (Particularly the dirt trails; those were very nice if a bit low-resolution.)

I'm just throwing in some tips to improve your 3D modeling technique.

I have one word to say about this: WOW. The level of detail put into the scenery and the ride itself is nothing short of amazing. Thank you for giving my the best experience I've had in the NL sim since....well, ever.
T: Honestly, not up to par with the rest of the file. The supports, 3ds, EVERYTHING was perfect. Except the track. There were wobbles all over the track; not one transition was perfectly smooth. Granted it was incredible for handbuilding, but it wasn't nearly the perfection I was expecting from reading the construction thread about this.
A: Alright, what am I supposed to rate here, the ride's adrenaline, or the feeling I got when I opened the night version???? I'm going to rate the feeling I got when I opened the night version, because while I think MF is by far the most beautiful roller coaster in the world, it's far from my favorite to ride. The feeling I got when I opened the night version was almost indescribable...a mixture of awe, breathlessness, more awe, and a tad bit of anger at the fact that you forgot to color 2 flanges for the night version [:P] Just kidding about that. But really, I've never felt a feeling like that when riding a NoLimits roller coaster. In my opinion, this ride set a very, VERY high bar for future recreations (and all other rides, for that matter).
Acc: Just. Freaking. BEAUTIFUL!!! I must say the the Mantis model was pretty, well....ugly, but hey, whatcha gonna do 'bout that? The realism that's portrayed through this recreation is years beyond anything I've ever seen before. I'll admit you could have made a few more detailed models for the operator's booth and whatnot, but that definitely wasn't necessary. The atmosphere surrounding the virtual ride was nearly identical to the real thing. If only you could have had a panda express next door cooking some Kung Pao chicken [:)]
And the night model....OH MY GOD THE NIGHT MODEL. This is the second time I've seen a bottom-lit night environment like that, and the second time I've loved it, though this time I really thought it made the ride. Without that, the night version of this would have been mediocre at best compared to the day model, and likely not worth the extra few MB in the file. But seriously, I took a screenshot of the night version, and it's now my desktop. I hope that's ok [:)].

Once again, thank you for the best recreation I've ever seen on this or any other NL exchange site. Good luck in the future!!
