Coaster Crazy Game |
Coaster Crazy is a game developed by Frontier Developments. It is a roller coaster building game made for the iPad and iPhone. Rumors exist that it will come to other platforms but for now, that is where it is available. Suprisingly, the game is free! One might be put off thinking this might be a game that is lacking a lot since its free, but read on through our review and you'll see why it really is a game that you have to get. Here's the link to get it right now: http://coastercrazy.com/coastercrazygame/download.asp

Once you download the game from iTunes you go ahead and start it up. There's a globe that you are presented with and you can pick a continent to start with. Each continent has a serious of roller coasters and challenges that have to be met.

Once you click on a continent, you enter it and see the various landmarks that you can build on. You can unlock each by buying it with the Coaster Crazy cash you've accumulated from your previously completed roller coasters. Each one can earn $1,000 and will keep earning so as long as you are collecting the cash. It doesn't collect it for you so don't expect to leave it overnight and have a bazillion dollars earned by morning. If it only were so easy :)

Once you select a landmark to build on, you are told what specifications it must meet. There's only 3 and some consist of speed, drops, keeping costs below a certain level and so on. It's real interesting and some can be a challenge to meet. However, we find that these challenges make the game that much more interesting. If you were given free build, then we feel you would get easily bored with the game. There is a free build area on the moon and you can build to your desire.

There's various track pieces that you can use. Each track piece can be adjusted as you'd like. You can extend them, make them longer, wider, etc. There's really no limitation to what you could do. Some track pieces are locked until you reach a certain level. Leveling isn't hard, typically you level up one level per coaster that you complete.

Similar to the track pieces, there's also various types of trains and track that you could use. Some of the trains resemble a car and other nifty looking things. The tracks are also cool. Some are inverted and I think there's a wooden track as well. Again, some of these are unlocked by the level you reach. Check out the picture below.

As you change track style, so do the train styles. There's a very good variety so you'll never get bored of the same track and train style as you can easily change to something else. Also, the response rates to Nausea, Fear and Excitement (EFN) vary with each track and train style. This is handy when come challenges require you to maintain a certain level of one of these. The meter to EFN is located on the bottom left of the screen when riding your creation.

I've played the game for about 2 weeks now and I really can say that I am not bored of it. I do get frustrated a bit sometimes when I can't figure out how to meet some of the challenges. That is what I think that makes this game interesting. The challenges you have to meet make you think more and allow you to become more creative in meeting those goals. The use of scenery helps achieving some of the challenges and also the use of different track and train styles works. I think the game is a wonderful game and will certainly bring hours and hours of entertain for those who get it.

You have no reason not to get it. It's free, its fun and the gameplay is very good. The graphics, though cartoonish, they look real good. The colors and nice and vibrant and you can customize the colors of the tracks to pretty much anything you want.

The controls of placing track couldn't be easier. You simply drag where you want the track to be and out pop the controls for it where you control the pitch, height, size of the elements and more. Those of you who are looking for extreme realism like many of you attempt at NoLimits coaster will not find it here. This is a game to have fun with and not break your head with mathematical algorithms.

Conclusion

Alright, wrapping things. Do I recommend or not recommend the game? Yes, we do recommend. Download it right now. Like I said, I've played the game for some time now and it is very entertaining. The gameplay is exceptional. There is a lot to do. Each roller coaster you build you have to meet challenges and all of them are fun in a whole to complete. Sure, you might get frustrated once in a while when you can't meet the challenge requirements. My recommendation is to chill out a bit and work on another continent of the game and come back to it later. I really enjoyed the diverse track styles and train styles. Initially I feared that since this was a free game, that it would lack in train/track styles but was pleasantly surprised that there is a good variety and more become available as you level up. Of course, if you don't want to wait to level up, you can use your diamonds to unlock the track pieces. You can earn these by completing missions on the moon and if you want, you can also purchase a bunch of diamonds for like 99 cents. It really is a great game. One downside is that there are track length restrictions. While I welcome the challenges, I particularly don't like the length limitations imposed. Sometimes I wish to make something longer but there is a limitation as to how long it can be. Other than that, this great is awesome. It's really fun and and you will definitely agree with me when you download it. Click the banner below to download it to your iPad and iPhone right now!
