SPECTRUM

Here is my entry to the 2007 NoLimits Tournament.
Standing at 134 feet and a drop of 131 feet, it reaches a top speed of 60 mph. Along its course of 3,419 feet, you will find yourself being thrown [not literally!] from side to side and upside-down 4 times. Enjoy your ride on Spectrum.

This coaster is significantly better than your tournament coasters from the last two years… in 2005 it was a technical failure, and last year it was the adrenaline holding you down. You’ve nailed down the technical now… this was almost perfect technically. The adrenaline was still holding you back, but it was an improvement over last year’s.

Technical:
For the most part, this coaster was shaped very well. There were lots of finite tugs, but these seemed to be more the result of slight errors with the AHG. That created a bump or two, and those weird banking jogs in the loop and the sidewinder. All it takes is some minor adjustments in the editor before running the track through AHG, and these would disappear very quickly. And all of those little tugs, like the ones in the first drop, were all so easily fixable… just take the bumps through the track smoother and they’d disappear. Overall, though, just minor issues. You still get a 9/10 in shaping. Now, there was a tree collision just after the air pop. That isn’t acceptable when the train is going over 50 mph. People would get hurt. There were no other real technical problems, though. granted, it did bother be that you had the MCBR set as a block, but just let the train roll straight through it during e-stop. But since you were only running two trains, and the station timing was properly set up, there was technically no problem with it. Overall 8.5/10

Adrenaline:
Mostly lax. The best part was the beginning, with the nice spiral first drop and the spiral inversion thingy after it, but after that the pacing was mostly just too slow. For how the coaster was paced, the loop was too slow. Hangtime is fine if the rest of the coaster is intense, but not if the rest of the coaster is slower. When the overall pace is slow, you need the inversions to be really intense to make it work. But in this, most everything was big and slow. The sidewinder, overbanked turn, MCBR, and final bit, was too wide. It needed to be tightened, for more intense g forces. If on a heartlined coaster all of your turns are under 3 g’s, something’s definitely wrong with the pacing. With nothing but slower 2-3 g turns, the whole ride lagged. And also, it ended way too abruptly. The part after the MCBR was way too short, which is where the problem with the sequencing was. And after the lackluster pacing leading up to it, that just kind of killed the coaster for me. And for that matter, did you even need the MCBR? You were only running 2 trains, after all, and the train was already past the end block before the next one came onto the circuit. You would have gotten much better scores simply by taking that part out. So, overall, faster inversions, sharper turns, and a more dramatic ending please! 6.5/10

Originality:
Hmm… not bad, but nothing really stood out. The first inversion was very nice, and I really appreciated both the little hit of lateral g’s going on to the lift and the pop of air before the immelman/sidewinder inversion. Unfortunately, that’s about it. Aside from the diving turn off the brakes, the rest consisted of three lacking turns and a corkscrew. It just wasn’t enough. 6.5/10 once again.

BT - Pretty smooth, however very pumpy. Supports are good, but I feel you could have used most trusses in places. The inversion shaping was spot on, and I like how you had actual lead ins so the ride wasn't a cookie cutter.

A - Neat ride with a good new age Vekoma feel. You had pretty good speed for the most part, and I liked the air hill between the loop and the next inversion. Was the MCBR necessary?

O - Neat layout, you did a great job avoiding the water so you don't have to make goofy little ugly bridges like my ride has. Overall, a very good ride.
