I try to stay away from recreations because it's too easy to be inaccurate. In this case, I'm willing to be wrong about this footprint and profile because my effort is to let anyone interested in the Tornado learn something about this marvelous ride. My first trip to Coney was in 1972. I didn't even know they had more than one coaster. I was surprised to learn that in addition to the Cyclone, there was the Tornado and the Thunderbolt, AND the Bobsled (Flying Turns). I'd gone because of the Cyclone, but that turned out to be my least favorite there. The Tornado swept me away! What an incredible ride. It was fast, smooth, and such a wonderful layout and use of limited space. I was amazed. I felt that laid out in front of me were 6 lanes of track but the one straight ahead wasn't always the one we were headed for! The turns! All diving or swooping! There was some airtime, and those fabulous trains. I went back to Coney Island in 1976. That was my last time to ride the Tornado. So this NL rendition is based on memory, limited photos, and some rough-drawn plans given to me by a coaster designer who had extreme respect for the Tornado. It was also fun to me that it was atop buildings, and the corner "store" was the station! I now know I have some positioning of the lift hill off, but I'm not sure how I could've fixed that anyway, since I don't have any direct overhead photo. Anyway, take this as an approximation of the Tornado, and imagine how wonderful it would be if it still existed.

T: Track was smooth and well paced thru out the course. Great work on the custom supports to build the structures. That takes skill and a lot of time.
A: I'm amazed you were fortunate to have ridden this great Classic. I have often wondered how the course was laid out. More proof that you don't need a monster high coaster for an exciting ride!
O: You did a good job keeping the Classic feel in this ride.
Overall, A great recreation and great coaster to add to my collection of keepers, Thanks! |

Incredible Bob. I love riding your wooden masterpieces. It's truly art. I'm so jealous you got to ride this, it looks unbelievable. Like, this is how a wooden coaster is supposed to ride. The layout is genius, and it provides a ridiculous amount of airtime hills, surprises, and lateral forces. I'm sure your recreation is supremely accurate.
Not gonna drop a numerical rate, I just wanted to leave you a quick word on your great work! |

F*** Yeah!, Bob!
You lucky S.O.B, you got to ride that. Even that you know the track is not spot on, this ride came out wonderfully friggin' well.
Rated from random seat: train 2, car 5, left seat
T - Those that think this ride is too strong on the lateral g force are mistaken. For when this ride was designed and built, I say the lats are spot on for a really old ride. And they are only strong in the pre-left section. Shaping is fluid at high speed and slightly rough at slower speeds (if that makes any sense). I have been on Wild Cat and Mr Twister at the old original site of Elich Gardens in Denver, CO in '94. I have not confirmed, but was told then that both rides were almost 100 years old. Scariest coasters I've ever been on. I feared for my life they were so fast and intensely rough.
A - Bob, I felt you captured that old style, well worn out coaster. The drop is awesome. Can't spoil the great part of the drop. Fun throughout. I don't know what else to say here really.
O - I will most likely be verbally reamed for the numbers of this rate. And for this, 1/4 pt. off only for not having enough room for riders to select a seat from the queue entrance and exit. That's the only thing I could find wrong or out of place on this ride. But great work on the store fronts and tunnels all made from supports. From the POV footage, you nearly nailed it. I would say it looks a lot tighter in the POV.
Passes E-Stop and Clearance
Thank you Bob. I am keeping this ride indefinitely.

(note to high rate nay-sayers and moderators:
If you have downloaded and ridden this ride and think my rate is too high, then I don't think you really know what a fun ride really is and that I am my own individual and believe in the accuracy of my rate. I mean no disrespect to moderators. It is, after all, just Simulator that we coaster nuts love.)
gforce - Bob didn't say anything about there not being a POV. It's a top down view of the layout, like in the NL editor, that is not available. Airial(sp?) views are very important for doing a recreation as close to a T as possible. |

Technical: The coaster was smooth and free of bumpy portions of track. Adrenaline: the coaster was tight and kept up its speed throughout the entire ride! Originality: Amazing as it seems there is a pov of the ride actually online: A 1976 pov of the ride at http://www.flickr.com/photos/37416464@N04/6782319864/. There was a tower in the turnaround area! |
