Track Description
::::::: SPACE MOUNTAIN v1977 DISNEYLAND, ANAHEIM CALIFORNIA :::::::

::::::: WARNING! NOT COMPATIBLE WITH NOLIMITS v1.6:::::::
1. Car Textures do not render correctly.
2. All textures are too dark.. especially stars.
3. Blocksegments/Brakes/Friction wheels are now too big and bright.
4. Cars are sometimes out of sync and can crash.
5. Bad frame rates... even with good graphics cards.

::::::: PLEASE USE NOLIMITS v1.5 TO RIDE AND RATE! :::::::

::::::: PLEASE READ ALL DESIGN NOTES & REVIEW LINKS BEFORE RATING. THANKS! :::::::

After the re-opening of Space Mountain after 2 years of refurbishments, this ride recreation is a trip back in time to when the ride originally opened... inside and out.

Top speed is only around 35mph!
Think of it more like a Wild Mouse on steroids , rather than trying to compare it to a "real" rollercoaster.

Ride recreated from models, photos, videos and memories of the actual ride.

All bumps and pumps are included for extra realism. Space Mountain was never a very smooth ride... after all it was built almost 30 years ago!

SPACE MOUNTAIN v2005 Recreation Launching Soon
http://www.spacestation77.com

***HIGH SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS***
-All the 3d is optimized, but there's still a lot of geometry and textures!
-Turn off reflections and shadows.
-Close all other programs/Stop unused running processes.
-Use "SMenvironment" to light the ride correctly and remove track shininess.
-Best viewed in a dark room... this is outerspace after all!
-Turn up your monitor's brightness/contrast to bring out the details.

RIDE HIGHLIGHTS:

-Inside dome star field
-Re-entry/Deceleration tunnel

::::::: UPDATE :::::::
First of all, Thanks to everyone for the great comments. Looks like some of you really understood what i was trying to recreate. Let me answer a few questions....

1. Regarding Speed... This Ride is over 30 years old! Space mountain opened in 1977 and was under development for over 10 years. This is not a 70 mph hypercoaster! It's top speed is only around 35mph. Think of it more like a fast "wild mouse" ride in the dark. It is not a modern steel rollercoaster... it is a part of rollercoaster history.

2. Regarding Catwalks... Check out the photos by clicking the link below, Space Mountain does indeed have Catwalks along the entire length of the track. This is for track inspection, emergency evacuation of riders, and for Disney Cast Members to "Reset" the ride.

3. Regarding wooden supports... I chose to use wooden supports for a simple reason... NoLimits metal supports are just too bright and reflective in the dark.

4. Regarding Lift Hills... Yes, Space Mountain does have 3 lift hills.

5. Regarding the "Ride Show"... Technology at the time was very limited. The "space effect" was basically a couple of projections... a galaxy, a spinning meteor(some say was actually an image of a chocolate chip cookie) and giant Mirror Balls/Disco Balls placed thoughout the building to create the stars... it was the 70s after all :P

Thanks again! Enjoy!

yep... me too....
steel rides are not my cup of tea neccesarily,
i like big wooden rollercoasters. i grew up 5 miles from disneyland and i never really counted this as a rollercoaster, but i've always really loved this ride.
this recreation is amazing, and i find it disturbing that it hasn't gotten all the credit it deserves. it also really bugs me how some people seem to really want to let the air out of other peoples' tires.
technicaly not perfect... not the track in any case, but it's accurate, and everything else IS just about perfect. the que, the little blue space mountain sign the big red ball.. the launch and burnout sequences , the cookie, the building, .. all of it was just really really good..
as a coaster in real life space mountain gets about a 2 in adrenaline , maybe 3 or 4 when they have the fans turned on...it sucks ... you've managed to recreate the suck...if yoy didn't maybe the track wouldn'ta fit inside, but regardless of why the track itself wasn't perfect the accuracy of the overall attraction was incredible.. the quality of the track is ambiguous...i hope you get to read this before someone has it removed... i really think it's outstanding....

T and O were based on the fact that this was a recreation, that said, great recreation. The only problem I had was the incomplete queue area, but I did notice that in the spaceport entry queue the window that let guests view from the queue was there, that is awesome. i remember as a little kid looking through that window and because of the lighting and reflections inside the dome, the cars seemed smaller than they actually were. As for the adrenaline, not the most heart pumping ride, but not your fault. As mentioned earlier, the top speed was only 30-35 MPH. Riding this gets me all nostalgic and things like this really make me want to become an imagineer.

Wonderful recreation of Space Mountain! I rode it before it underwent the refurbishments and this looks and feels a lot like I remember it (though the mountain was that ugly rust colour back then). The track layout was what I remember so that was accurate. I honestly can't rate adrenaline well on a Disney coaster but I LOVE riding this in NoLimits! I would say this is an incredibly accurate version of Anaheim's Space Mountain. Now if only someone could recreate the Matterhorn...

Of course, the fact that we all know you have multiple accounts on WWS/CS (they all have the same IP address) would not lend any weight to your BS story now, would it?

In the complaint section(http://www.coastercrazy.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=24) everyone can see the initial attempt to remove all "bad" positive reviews from my track. When it became clear that there where too many downloads and positive reviews "someone" conspired to have me completely removed.

It is true that i rated your track with the same rate you gave me(you can still see my review in your complaint http://www.coastercrazy.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9988 ) I had never posted to this site before and didn't understand how things worked here or why my review wasn't showing up... that's why i reposted it.

You can't expect that anyone would believe I created all these users to download and review my track.

Yes, because my rating was well explained, and in line with several other ratings on your track. Where as yours was about 8 words, and several points lower than anything else I'd gotten.

You also reposted your rate after it was removed, not once, but TWICE, as well as creating a second account (joydivision) to downrate mine AGAIN, as well as give yourself a 10. Frankly, I think you ought to be banned completly.

I'd like to thank everyone for downloading and enjoying my track. I can tell by the enthusiastic reviews, and over 300 individual downloads, that some of you really appreciated what i was trying to do.

You might have noticed that I've been "taken out" by the Rollercoaster Mafia. I've been disqualified for being too popular and not being "in" with the people who run this site. I've received emails from the webmasters that were full of accusations and intimidation. You may have also noticed Positive Reviews for my track have been deleted... while inaccurate negative reviews are allowed to remain.

In the end, I can't see how such a closed system could be fun for these people.

I wish i had something more positive to say.

Having grown up revering this ride, I must say your recreation was superb. It captured all of the feeling of this great ride. The detail was superb and the track seemed very accurate. Too bad a few other reviewers don;t really get this ride as you've nailed the look and feel of this ride. Great job.

I viewed the ride in total darkness. It's 2:30 AM here. After riding the ride I pressed the "E" key to wander around and to my surprise I found myself outside looking at the exterior of the Space Mountain and the Magic Kingdom and fireworks in the distance and the stary night sky above. How incredible can you get!!!!?????? I rode Space Mountain when it first opened and remembered it was not all that fast but it had some very sharp curves and drops and not being able to see where you were going made the curves and drops unexpected and very abrupt and brutal. Sort of like getting mugged in a dark alley. Haven't ridden it since. This recreation deserves nothing less than 3 10's.

This was amazing. I have this environment laser although it makes the track red sometimes and also changes the cat walk(http://coastercrazy.com/track_exchange/de ... p?tid=8107 got it from barones coaster LaSeR) that looks real good and like lights on but still completely dark. now for a good rate.

T-This was done wonderfully but even though the ride was originally rough there where still some unnecessary pumps. Although most of it was smooth some bad parts.

A-I will rate high because with all the 3ds it made it way beter. I loved the whole building and you made an entrance path and super awsome station.

O/R-This was a lot like the real one. I just dont have anyway of describing it.

This was an awsome coaster please make more.

T: It was ok, not that smooth, not too rough.

A: Captures the excitement of the real ride

O: Great work with 3ds, though you should probably not have the backsides to the 3ds.

Sorry, don't feel like rating.

This track captures the feel of the ride in amazing detail. For those who have never experienced the ride, it would seem unrealistic. However, for those of us who have, it doesn't get any better than this... other than riding the real thing. Simply incredible!!!

Overall, this is probably the best example of Space Mountain that I have seen to date. The entire layout is pretty accurate, and the best work that could be done with 3Ds is certainly evidence here, although there is some tightening up that could be done. As far as the track, having ridden SM many times there are a couple of issues with the braking system, and just some odd transitions that really could use a little more tightening up. This is not a high adrenaline type of ride, and has some serious technical issues (like curved brakes, etc.) that need some clean up to really make this believable.

I'm gonna agree with what some of the others are saying. The 3ds is definatly impressive (although in truth, they don't add THAT much to the ride, since most are outside the actual coasting area), but the ride itself leaves quite a bit to be desired. It's just not very exciting. The trackwork didn't feel that great either, but the layout is so repetitive that it doesn't matter that much. Not your fault really, but IMO this ride isn't mind blowing the way many of these rates would lead you to think. I'd love to see someone put this level of detail into a recreation of, say, Dueling Dragons or Nemesis, something worth riding.

i've never ridden the real one but to tell you guys. This ride never could have run in real. Horizontally and vertically bend brakes! Wooden supports complete with catwalks! Also there is pretty much pumping in this ride. I don't know if the track layout is correct because i didn't rode it, but it looks a bit strange in the start... 3 seperated lifts to bring one small train up...
The ride excitement was also pretty low. Slow ride. Almost no objects in the area even just to create speed feelings... No objects were i'd came close or maybe even gone through. So pretty low adrenaline.
Now about your 3d's. That is really a plus. Great 3d work, Also the environment, really cool created. That's a big plus again.

Well done with your ride. The 3d's were amazing but spend also some work at the track and supporting. Not just build a darkride and throw some quick supports in there...
