I don't think there's enough time per round, really. I mean, 15 days? One round a month? That gives the judges the same amount of time to ride each track and give it a review as it did for the designers to put everything together; track, smoothing, supports, details, fixing up, scenery, testing. I don't think that's too fair.

^^I do realize it is supposed to be hard, but I do not think it should just single out those who have more time on their hands by having a semi-short building period.

^easy solution: sleep less!

I'm confident I can get a track done in 15 days working on minimal free time.

Hey, I'm not so worried about me, it's a lot of others that may have the problem. I suppose it's still fair, everyone does get the same 15 days.

Here's a little historical perspective...

2003 Match-up Contest (hosted by WWS): 1 week per round
2004 NoLimits Tournament (hosted by GFA): 18 days per round
2005 Match-up Contest (hosted by cjd): 11 days per round
2006 NoLimits Tournament (hosted by cjd): 11 days per round
2007 NoLimits Tournament (hosted by gazag): 3 weeks

So, compared to most of the past, 15 days is actually a nice long building time.

I'm much more likely to hand in a track when the building time is short. I usually have just enough time to come up with SOMETHING that meets the requirements, then hand it in.

When I have months before the deadline, I'll start making something, it won't be good enough, then I'll think "screw it, I've got time to start over" and trash the whole thing. Then I'll get frustrated and just forget about it for awhile. Then I'll remember it later and say "screw it, I don't have time".

With only 15 days, I'll be forced to work on it, I'll have to stick with my first layout, and I won't have a chance to second-guess it before I send it in.

There are 34 people signed up according to the first post.
32 will make it to round two.

I had to LOL at the thought of those two who won't make the cut... until I realized that one of them will probably be me.

[:(]

But hey, I am still gonna give it my best shot!

I think signups should still be open, as long that you meet the submit date of the end of round 1 and submit something than you should count them in imo.

no, they shouldn't. People who don't sign-up also have acces to the template. They can practise all they want without having to worry about the banning rule. They can build a track, and when it's done they sign-up, if it's not done of not good, they don't sign up and also don't get bannend. it just aint fair,

so sorry guys, you had two weeks to sign up, better luck next time

actually, it makes perfect sense. All the people signed up now had no idea what they are up against. They knew that whatever the template turned out te be, they have to make a valid track or get banned.

Now that the template is online everybody can see it, and somebody might say: "I'll make a track, if it turns out rubbish i'll keep silent, but if it's good, i'll sign-up for the contest and send in my track". The participants don't have that luxury, they must send in a track or they get banned. That's why the signup period was separated from round 1.
