Hello,

I asked a couple of people about a good 3D object creator to use, and I was curious which ones you guys use and which ones would be the best to download. I did take the suggestions from the other guys (symbiotic, canadmos) and i still cant seem to figure out how to use them. What do you guys use?

So, my friend came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted a frozen banana, and I said no, but I want a normal banana later, so... yea.

I use the Gravimetric Studios Object Creator & Google Sketchup. Whichever on I use depends on what I'm making :). Out of the two I'd say the Objects Creator is more simple but it's very limited with what you can make with it. Sketchup on the other hand has alot more features.

Use Object Creator, it can do almost anything, and it's EXTREMELY simple to use.

edit: Haha, Alright; Use Object Creator, it can do what you need it to do, and it's EXTREMELY simple to use.

I use anim8or. Cool free program with some nice tutorials on the site to get the hang of some cool modeling. [:)]

The problem with all these 3D modelling packages is that they ALL suck major ass, none of them can really do anything. Making the statement "Use Object Creator, it can do almost anything" is totally absurd!

When you consider that they are for the most part, free, or really not very much money, then you could start to see how you may consider them to be ok, but these are some of the softwares I spend my working day using:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autodesk_Inventor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CATIA
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NX_5
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_Works
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_Edge
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/it ... eID=123112

Some of these can cost up to ?????????16,000 per license [lol]

I did not get them for free. They're at work, so work have a license for each computer of most of those softwares.

I did make a wookie copy of Inventor though! [:D]

I got a copy of inventor from a camp I went to (the college that hosted it was upgrading, so they gave all of their copies to the participants in the camp) and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to use it for building 3ds for roller coasters. In my version, everything was being made on the centimeter scale, rather than meters, so it was much too small for easy use, so I don't use it anymore.

Now I use the free, unregistered object creator to make simple stations and other things for my rides. It is extremely limited, and even more so since I don't know how to make custom textures :(

I'm hoping to get Maya and/or 3ds Max for christmas this year, as well as Photoshop, and then I'll be able to pwn. Hopefully. Btw, Maya, in case you didn't know, is a professional modeling program used mainly for animations, but can make some really cool-looking things. I was looking around and found a student license for both Maya and 3dsMax for $275.95. It includes both programs. With luck my parents will decide not to be cheapskates this year lol.[:D]

You can change it, you can make it millimetres, centimetres, metres, feet, inches etc... It's all good kids, it's all good [:)]

I use 3dmax 9 at the moment, probably upgrading to version 2009 shortly once my 1 year license is up.

Fyi, the Personal Learning Edition of Maya is FREE. You have abit of a water mark and I'm unsure of its exporting features, but hey you learn the program.

I use Maya 2008 Unlimited I bought it under a student license for $390.

The best part is the box came with 3 other software products that add up (including Maya) to over $15,000 worth of software for $390. God I love educational licenses. The other software was a video encoder, Motion Builder and Combustion (similar to Adobe After Effects).

Sketchup Pro for me, its simple to use and has lots of features in my opinion. Just takes a few trial runs to get the hang of and you will be building in no time. The only negative issue I have run into is that exporting to 3ds has weird lighting effects in the NL Simulator but it's not too bad. It has never bothered me to the extent of asking someone else to export it.
