Im sorry if this has been mentioned, but if its an Intamin coaster and its supposed to be "family oriented," would you consider an Intamin Motorbike?

I know its not the most adrenaline pumping ride, but it would be something good for the family to ride together.

But from what I've seen in the only two times I've went there, there are not much Mother Father son's/daughter's at Cedar Point anymore. Its all adrenaline addicted people there now, and a kiddy ride or water ride might push away some of the adrenaline addicted people.

By the way, this isn't an officail stat, its my own observation.

But if that's the case, then it makes perfect sense to build a family-oriented ride from a business perspective. Amusement parks can only rely so much on the hardcore thrill enthusiast to turn a profit: it's only good business sense to want to appeal to as wide a demographic as possible, and family trips are the reason the vast majority of the general public is likely to visit an amusement park.

It may not be exactly what we would like, sure, but it's not like they're tearing down MF to put in this new ride. Those coasters and the higher-thrill flats are still there for us to enjoy.

I believe that the motorbike model is made by Vekoma.

Yea...Zamperla makes them as well but I think your thinking of one of those too. I don't believe that Intamin makes a motorbike.

It has to be a coaster, Cedar Point couldn't lose their record.

Do you really think they still care? Those 2 parks do NOT compete. Most people in Ohio dont even know Magic Mountain exists. Same I bet for people who live in Cali who are general park goers. Sure they cant claim "more than any other park" but theyve been doing it for so long everyone will assume anyways.

Even though Dragster DOESNT say the tallest and fastest, everyone in line still thinks it is.

I think that whole thing is overrated now.

Now, I will be a bit disappointed. But, thats cuz I hoped for a wooden coaster (Dont care what!)

So this wouldnt draw me to want to stay in this area.

Let me ask you this, would a family oriented ride make you want to go to Cedar Point?

Not really, but we're a vast minority compared to everyone else who might enjoy a family style ride.

But CP has never been known for that...and they just put in Planet Snoopy 2 years ago which should be a good famiyl/kids area...PLUS they have 2 kidde/junior/family coasters with Jr. Gemini and Woodstock. I can't see it being a family ride in the kiddie coaster sense of the term.

I know this has been mentioned but, Maverick was marketed as a family friendly ride and it's insane. When I heard Maverick was family friendly I had low expectations, which I guess made the ride surprise me a little more. Maybe CF is toning down the supposed intensity of this attraction to lift overall expectations in the end. Also, maybe Maverick will no longer the the dark horse of the CP coaster arsenal. We'll see:)

I quite agree Dmillz, Cedar Fair has done their duty to the munchkins and should now focus on delivering a good coaster.

Maverick was I believe first pitched as a family ride...but as time went one I think they realizes just how intense this ride would be. Perhaps they are pitching it as a family ride to get more people to ride it.

CP seems to go on 3 or 4 years cycles...adding a coaster, kids ride/area, thrill ride, and a year or nothing in cycles. If this is a coaster...I think we can expect a thrill ride for 2011 and then maybe anothing family based attraction the follwing year or so.

No, but that wasn't my point. Cedar Point already has a lot of things I love. Would I also love more of them? Sure. But I won't begrudge them trying to widen their appeal. If the announcement is something I don't care about, I'll still want to go to Cedar Point (again) regardless. We're not losing anything, we're just not gaining it. I just think people should have some perspective, that's all.

Not a coaster, not even a giant flume ride, just a normal one, and after insane weeks of misleading hype about it being a coaster. It does fit the park as a whole, but frankly, I'm really pissed.

Shoot the Rapids
________________________

A Whitewater Family Adventure Begins!

Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season
SANDUSKY, Ohio ????????? Grab your paddles and climb aboard the newest river-ride adventure this side of the Appalachians! Shoot the Rapids, an all-new family water ride, will rise above Cedar Point?????????s rustic Frontier Trail when it makes a splash on Opening Day 2010.

During the 2,100-foot-long journey, adventurers will travel through a wooded area and around an illegal still used for brewing sweet-tasting elixir, all while encountering surprise water elements and special effects. Guests will navigate the waters aboard a 10-passenger boat. Riders will be seated in five rows of two and will be secured by individual over-the-head lap bars.

The excitement builds when the boats ascend one of two lift hills. The first and largest hill will be 85 feet tall and will drop riders down onto Millennium Island at a 45-degree angle. The second hill will be 49 feet tall and will end with a dramatic ?????????shoot????????? through water rapids and rockwork.

Guests on the Frontier Trail can keep their feet planted on dry land and watch as riders complete their wet and wild trek down the final drop.

?????????Shoot the Rapids will instantly become a family favorite,????????? said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. ?????????Our guests wanted another option to cool off on warm summer days. We listened, and Shoot the Rapids will deliver the perfect combination of refreshment, thrills and new memories at Cedar Point.?????????

Shoot the Rapids will cost more than $10.5 million to build and will be the most expensive water ride ever built at Cedar Point. It will have a capacity of approximately 1,200 riders per hour. The ride will last three minutes. A rider height requirement has not yet been determined and will be released at a later date. The ride was designed and manufactured by IntaRide LLC of Glen Burnie, Md., the same company that built the Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster and Millennium Force roller coasters and the Thunder Canyon river-rafting ride.
