I've started this project 18th of April, this year(2004). As the title says, I'm busy with a Darkride Designer. I'll explain what it exactly is

Darkride Designer is a program, which ables you to build your own darkrides in 3D. But what is a darkride? Almost everyone has ever been in a darkride. A haunted house for example. In a darkride you have to sit down in a single car, a train or a boat. Then you enter a building with many theming. You see animatronics moving, talking. Everywhere is music. A darkride is directed on one theme. In a haunted mansion it's Ghosts, Skeletons etc. Every darkride is different, and with Darkride Designer you can build them yourselves, and simulate them in 3D! o you can design a track, select the type of darkride, color settings, speeds etc. Ofcourse a darkride is no darkride without theming, so you'll be able to place theming wherever you want. And animation theming too. You can place sensors on the track, which let a theming object move. Or the sensor could make a sound play, open a door etc. So you can create your own darkride, or you can recreate a real one.

These are some pictures of models we've made so far:

On the site are many more pics, including pics of how we made the models(step by step), some movies, and things about the engine we use

That's it, what do you think of this game? Questions? Tips? Post it!

MoP, you must read the whole part. There are screens of the editor too, not only renders, and they've created a whole engine!

Btw, gr8 idea DD, I hope it'll release soon..........

Omg! Some very nice work you got there. Im also pretty good at modelling but i want to design my own sim where objects go along on a type of rail. Im very interested in this type of stuff and was wandering how much skill it would take to do this stuff.

Well, if I make everything high detailed, you should have a pc with 10 Ghz, and I don't think anyone of us has one[;)]. Every game has low poly models, and imagine, you have a darkride with doombuggies, then you have 300 of those cars+theming, sounds etc. That's eating memory[:p]

Matt, www.opengl.com is what i beleive most people use, including NL etc. The project looks intresting, but as said all i can really see so far is renders

just depends the render you make. Check NL, some cars are better detailed and it don't eat a lot of FPS. Another option is could choose detail level [;)], you could see actually @ nl some tracks who have a lot of 3DS and FPS are healthy

Hmm, I think that's not a bad idea, is it?

I'm using DirectX 8 for the 3d engine. I know there are much renderings, but there are also some screens of the editor, which shows the engine loading some models. I posted them in a LINK, because they're too large too post as an image. Check my first post, or visit the site and click on editor sceens
