Dreamworld's Tower of Terror goes backwards

The Tower of Terror ride at Dreamworld, Australia is an Intamin Reverse Freefall coaster, build in the same year as it's twin brothers Superman: The Escape, at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

According to a news article on Australian Leisure, Tower of Terror will close this week and open again after four weeks. After these 4 weeks, the ride will now launch the car backwards. This means that after you are launched with 100 mph you will go up the 377 feet with your face looking down to the ground.

This news does not come a total surprise, as it is rumored that at least one side of the clones at Six Flags Magic Mountain would also get a backwards launch.

I rode this one back in '04 (and I rode Superman last year) and while it does take away the intimidating view of the launch track going up to the tower, it will make the ride it self even better.

This seems like a really, really good idea...maybe it'll catch on and more rides will be turned backwards? O_o

American Eagle, along with most woodies, can't run backwards for liability reasons.

You mean to tell me it takes 4 weeks to just 'turn the cars around'? Or, do they have to do a lot of adjusting ect?

I believe Screamin Eagle was put backwards for something, but they switched it back cause that didn't work out too well.

That's gonna be awesome. The view at the top of the tower will be remarkable, then going straight face down. I like it.

A backwards launch, no matter what the speed, is awesome. Imagine being in the front (back) row and just watching the station get farther and farther from you, not knowing when the tower is coming. Sounds incredible.

Maybe Six Flags will put this in the back of their mind so when Superman/Bizarro has the novelty of the audio wear off they will then make THAT run backwards too.

I kinda think the idea of Superman at SFNE running backwards will ruin it.
