When I bought gas today which would be Aug 31, 2005. I payed $3.19 but at the station down the road it was $3.39. Im tired of this crap. Gas should not be this much. We have other source of oil that we can't use becuase of the STUPID ENVIROMENTALIST, wont let us use oil resurves in Alaska, and of the coast of California. The goverment owns that land so I think that they should be able to use it if they want to. Plus it would make me happy and millions of people in the U.S. happier to. We would travel more. So attendece in adumsment parks would go up.

I think if you have such a major objection be a president and run our country it's already screwed up as it is, so why not dig our hole deeper? [lol] besides it's a wonderfull thing called a bicycle for you're local needs, then drive long distances and that would even out you're prices. and gouldy has a point, they do have it more expensive so heaven forbid another american inconvienence [flush]

This is why we should have switched to renewable energy sources like Fuel Cells, Solar, and Ethanol. Natural Gas is a limited resource, and people are only paying attention to it now that prices have gone up. I really don't get it... nobody cares about anything until it erupts into chaos.

right, because of course we haven't tried some of those already, or we aren't slowly getting there. Things take time, right now its the hybrid, and from there, I think we'll evolve into something else, and we'll eventually not have to use oil for gas any more.

^Those energy sources have been known about for quite a while now, (well, the fuel cell idea is new...) but only now are people really considering them. I guess I worded my reply wrong...

Yes. gas is very expensive in Europe and has been for a long time. They have to import all their gas and there is also very high tax on it. The US is pretty much the only country that can afford to have cars that get 10 mpg (Hummers). $3 dollars per gallon is nothing compared to what the world pays. We also need to preserve the environment. The whole point to living is not oil. This is not the first time gas has gone up a lot either. If people here can remember the '70's there was a large US gas shortage. People waited up to four hours to fill their tanks half full and pay a lot for gas.

i knew this was bound to happen. think about how much oil is exported every week. each export gets bigger and bigger. its gonna be soon where gas will be upwards of 10 dollars, and more. its ridiculous, the world needs to stop relying on oil and find a clean, renewable energy source before there is a global crisis...

At the gas station across the street, it's 1.20$ a litre, way too much.

Has anyone other than me heard about running cars on used cooking oil, like the kind that comes from Mc Donalds. I saw a show on it once on Tech TV (before it got bought out by G4 and comcast) and I've been interested. From what I heard, you can get a deseil (however you spell that) car and pay about $100 for modifacations (fuel heater and special exhaust) you can run on vegtable oil. I was just wondering if anyone else heard about this, and I really thought this idea had some power. BTW the only ehaust is the smell of french fries.

Well over here in PA, it's only 2.65 a gallon at my local gas stations, so I guess were not getting the worst of Katrina's problems.

As usual, it doesnt look like many of us did some research. Its not a political thing at all, its a hurricane thing.

The New Orleans area and the waters in the Gulf provide a huge quantity of fuel oil (oil for fuel) for the US. In fact, its one of the largest resources for the fuel we put in our cars - even as much as the stuff thats shipped from the Middle East.

So obviously with the entire area under 20ft of water, the huge number of refineries on land and the oil derriks in the ocean not working, there will be a mini-shortage of oil till the area resumes work.

Why do you think it went up 50 cents over night? Not just from some political choice, this was mother nature taking her turn.

This price hike has NOTHING to do with Bush or anyone else, except for a storm called Katrina.

Just because we are under 18 doesnt mean that we cant act or speak like regular over 18 people, and plus even since we are under 18, dont we have a right to express our views and thoughts? Even if we dont have experience about political ideas and political sense doesnt mean that we, under age people are stupid, and immature, and have no sense about whats going on in the politcal world. So Real my advice is to stop being such a hipicrit about political views and such. Honestly, I respect your trackwork, but your attitude towards other people is plain BS.

yeah, he's right, man. You don't have to "vote" to notice whats going on. Voting is a right given to you so you can express your politcal views in a way that will actually make a difference. Now I know what your thinking, you didn't say anything about voting, but its all political, isn't it? I can just as easily tell you whats going on in New Orleans, just as you can, and I can just as easily form an opinion just as you can, Am I right? So do you really think you have to be 18 to "fully" understand whats going on? NO, every one of us can just as easily be right, just as we could easily be wrong. But you could be right about your statement of katrina, but I doubt it is soley because of a "shortage" but maybe more of an "oppurtunity" to quickly raise prices?

Nah, it's partly both IMO. Katrina may of damaged the "system" a bit, but don't deny the idea that Gas companies are using these excuses to sip up some hefty profit. BTW I'd consider myself to be at a higher intellectual level then most 18 y/o people.
