So, I was thinking to myself, the world needs more family coasters. parks these days are so chock full of record-breakers that a lot of them forget that family is what it is all about (thanks Six Flags). Anyway, That is what Disney got right, creating a fun experience that families can enjoy together. I decided that one way to fix that was to create a family coaster myself. I started this a few hours ago with only one goal, to create a coaster that everyone can enjoy. It combines modern thrill elements with old-school excitement. I am still working on theming and name ideas, for now it will be known as Gerstlauer Family Coaster.

I finished the layout, I am just tweaking a few spots, heres how it looks now. I am waiting to support it until I come up with a theme to go with it, also, the colors may change after a theme has been established.

At the moment, I have three trains in operation, I am debating deleting the MCBR and just having 2 trains, thoughts?

If you emergeny braked it at the MCBR how bad is the crawl back to the station? If its painful then i'd say yeah get rid of it, if not keep it. Im sure a family ride like this won't need 3 trains. The ride duration isn't that long so people queueing shoud be able to tolerate the wait.

Yeah, the only way it makes it back to the station after E-stopping it is to add transports to the brake segment, I was just thinking that I wanted to avoid the mistake Disney made with Gadgets Go Coaster, the year they opened that I think the queue time was almost 2 hours, and I stupidly waited in that line.

I just did a quick calculation and with a 2 train operation the capacity is approx 1440 PPH.

Yeah, but, you gotta remember that roller skaters were a new coaster at the time, and Gadgets Go Coaster was the first one in the US.

I have changed the colors and given it a name, next step, fix a couple pumps and landscape the ride area. The ride is now called Canyon Blaster and the theming will be reminiscent of the coyote and roadrunner cartoon scenery.

Yeah I know, I am not committed to it yet, so, it will likely change.

Ok, so I have decided to theme it around a super volcano eruption aftermath (similar to what will happen if Yellowstone goes). Still working on naming the damn thing.

Ok, I am now calling it Eruption. I have done some terraforming and adjustments to the track, this will be the last pic before the whole thing is done, a teaser trailer will be made available within the next couple weeks.

I decided something. I am not going to theme or terraform this coaster. I like it as a basic idea. Too many coasters rely on theming and scenery for thrills. A coaster either has it, or it doesn't. Sure theming can add a little, but, if the basic idea isn't there, then it is a crappy coaster IMO.

^Agreed..... mostly.

Space Mountain is one of my all time favorites... but that's because the basic idea IS there. It's got a great layout, amazing theming, it just all fits together.

Now I really want to go back to Disneyland.... :(

Disney and universal in general are in a whole other category when it comes to rides because they do not really have the stereotypical "cookie-cutter" rides that most parks do. Most of their rides are designed in-house and the engineering and design departments at these parks actually take the time to make sure they have a quality attraction, regardless of how much time they need to actually build the ride. More parks need to follow that process, rather than racing to get it built before the next season.
