During the 2009 season a new megacoaster will be built in Mirabilandia.

The location is the one where now there is the wooden coaster Sierra Tonante, which will be broken up from now. The new steel coaster will occupy a larger area because the track, very quick and with a lot of "air time", will go beyond the borders of the park.

It will be a farewell without regret for the old - 15 years of activity - Sierra Tonante, which will be substituted by a sit-down coaster of a very high level, both for the lenght and for the height. It wil be higher of Katun, the inverted coaster of the park. In the meanwhile the new attraction will be used from a wide target of guests, according to what it has been done in Europa Park, where Silver Star, the megacoaster, is the symbol of the park.

Seems like the only wooden coaster, that's fairly (read: Not more than 10 hours of driving) close to me will be torn down and replaced by a megacoaster... Well, at least the megacoaster will feature a lot of airtime, I guess...

Thoughts, comments?

Hey Vid....I can't believe it!
A park with 2 coasters replace one...I cannot understand this stupid choice.
And even because Sierra Tonante is great!
Why do they always make confusing and awful changes?

Hmmm... My opinion is that sierra tonante pretty much a lame ride. Maybe it would have been a better choice if they choose a new, better wooden coaster [:)]

I didn't even know it was confirmed to be a B&M already.. I was hoping for an Intamin, well Vid, you can forget about the airtime then. [lol]

Haven't ridden very many B&M's, have you?

Pretty cool, but I don't know why they would replace a coaster when there are so few at the park. Was it space issues or something?

The new coaster will be cool,no doubt...but replacing the second and LAST major attraction of the park is wrong.
Katun rules but is NOT for everybody....Sierra has always had a huge success even with those people who were scared by the inverted.
A 70m or more megacoaster will frighten many...here in Italy there isn't a pure rollercoaster mania.
So,from a commercial point of view,it is not the best choice.

AAAAAAARRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH! It burns!
No, seriously, I'm very sad about Sierra being demolished...
Barone, I think we must start working on the recreation immediately!

^^Yeah, I agree... On Katun, I had to wait for only like 5 minutes, but on sierra for 15. Everyone loved sierra, becouse it looks quite harmless, and GP are quite intimidatet by only the looks of a coaster here in this part of Europe...

Yeah, I havn't ridden Sierra, but I've heard so many nagative stories, but for the mareketing stand point it isn't the best decision, but anyway, let's hope the next investment will be in a GG woody or something.

A tribute is a must now.
I called my friend Andri (he works in Mirabilandia)and he said the new ride will be fantastic!Considering that all the projects are already complete but not public he promised me to send news as soon as possible!
He just told me it will occupy the entire area of ST,part of the parking lot and part of an actual free area.

^^ Sounds awesome, actually! I heard it will go over the lakes, beyond the park boundries. Would be cool if it would.
Could you by any chance be able to get me some blueprints or a tloris drawing/photo of ST? I'm having some difficulties with the layout...

^I know so many people that haven't heard of St yet...
Well, to tell the truth, I was quite surprised that there was a woody in Italy!

Mirabilandia has been built by an important man here in Italy (if you know Silvio Berlusconi).
He loves USA and he wanted in his park a rollercoaster that could represent something that it's in the DNA of every american citizen[:)]
That's why I liked ST.Every coaster fan should love woodies[;)]
It was beautiful to see that structure while driving to the park entrance. And during night, hundreds of those Philips sparkling lights were amazing.
I'll miss it!

I didn't know Silvio Berlusconi built Mirabilandia. He is certainly a funny man. I haven't quite seen any other head of state quite like him.

I believe the reason for removing Sierra Tonante is maintenance. After what I've heard it was getting very expensive to keep running. I also got to agree with Dirk, the ride was pretty lame( actually it was very lame). The roughness was unlike anything else I've tried, and the airtime was almost not existent. The turns weren't that fun either. The only positive thing about the ride was that it looked nice. Bring on the megacoaster I say. Judging by B&M and mirabilandias former collaboration it's gonna be awesome!
Coaster count: 153

It was a pretty good coaster. The GP always seems to like it. However I am all for a new B&M mega...Sad to see it go though.

OH
MY
GAWD!

Look what I just found!

2009 - New Coaster - Rumor - (8/14/08) The latest buzz over the rumored Intamin Rocket coaster going into Mirabilania is that it will launch trains to 120kph (74.5 mph) in 2.5 seconds, climb up and down a vertical 65m (213 ft) Top Hat element before running off into a series of other elements said to include 3 or 4 inversions. From the brief description, this ride sounds very similar to Storm Runner at Hersheypark.

Ok, Imma drop dead now...
Kthxbye...
