FYI, that first pic is the bottom of the first drop as well, not the future helix site.

Apparently y'all have been living under a rock or something because Don over at KI Extreme recently took a "backstage" tour of Diamondback's ravine section. Check it:

This is looking really good!
I hope someday something like this will be built near me...
And, yes, I know there's silver star, but I hear it's crappy and forceless, even by B&M standards...
Plus, there's the pesky thing called "quite a long distance" in between...

Dunno why, but these pictures on this page remind me of RCT.

I was totally there! I had a great time with it and got some great pictures of all the construction. I even got to go under the Beast and get great pictures of its first drop.

Ya gotta love Fall Freakout!

Fall Freakout was great! You may have seen me, I was in the group of three loud, obnoctious teenagers. lol. I would have gotten a few pictures of Diamondback except for the small problem that my camera ran out of freaking battery just before I entered the park. So that kinda sucked. Who else was at Fall Freakout?
By the way, I have just decided that my favorite type of ride to look at is a B&M hyper. Hopefully it will become my favorite to ride, too.

Taken from Diamondback's blog:

"Workers begin clearing queue line and station area
November 3, 2008

Workmen began clearing the area where the queue line and station for Diamondback will be early this morning. The stage located to the left of the Rivertown Mining Company -- the location for the August 6 announcement of Diamondback -- was torn down this afternoon.

The Rivertown Mining Company building, where Red Beard's Ravenge was located during Halloween Haunt, has been cleared out and is expected to be torn down on Tuesday.

Work also continues in the area outside the entrance to the Beast. The new entrance to the Beast will be in virtually the same spot guests entered the ride when it first opened in 1979.

- Don Helbig"

There are also a few new pictures on the site: http://www.kidiamondback.com/public/latest/gallery/

Where was the Beast's original entrance at? I can't seem to find any pictures of it. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places...

Where the exit is right now. The exit used to come out of what is now employee access on the path on the right side of the station.

They chose yellow supports for the lift hill/drop in order to make the height stand out.

For some reason supports like this make Nitro look taller than it is. It always looks like its 300ft tall. I wonder why B&M did supports like this only on Nitro and not on any other hypers.

This ride is looking good, but I would have preferred if they had stuck with one support color. Maybe some diving hills like the earlier hyper had, like Nitro, Raging bull and Apollos chariot had.

I would guess they don't use those supports because they don't need to use that much steel at all, it's just an extra cost for nothing.

Compare that picture of Nitro to this one of Behemoth, you can see they used much less steel than they used to. http://www.rcdb.com/ig4005.htm?picture=6

Not to mention that lift and drop is EXTREMELY crammed in that area. Theres buildings to one side and the front, and on the Other side is the splashdown. There is very minimal room for a billion supports.

Funny thing is Nitro only has 5 Supports holding up its lift. Compared to intamins its nothing. Always though it was weird how Intamin and B&M use such different support styles.

Yeah, but they're very wide and long. The newer B&M hypers use single beams on the lifts, and maybe a few A-shaped. It's still a lot less steel than the rest of their hypers.
