Post 9/11 thoughts ....

Guys, I travel every other week to some other place in the world. The week after next I will fly from Atlanta to Honolulu for a week, and then come back, be home for two weeks, and fly from Atlanta, GA to Osan, Korea. From there I will go to Misawa, Japan. And yes, this is all for work.

The airport security some consider a bit much ... but honestly, had it been done right 9/11 would most likely have been avoided. I mean, what were they protecting us from before they got strict? Just roll with it and be glad that someone decided to take a stance and protect you. Smile when you go through the TSA folks, and roll on about your business.

Now, when I go overseas I will let you know how things are there ... and if there is a difference after the events of 9/11. As info, I will be in 38 miles from the DMZ (north Korea's borders) ... I think I will get an eyeful AND an earful of why we are so strict about keeping our distance.

Well, those are my thoughts ... just roll with it, and if you are bent on complaining all the time, you can at least be grateful (see the silver lining) that you are not the one in charge of coming up with ways to protect innocent people from random acts of terror.

I don't think you fully understand what you are saying. Freedom of speech is definitley a good thing, you would not be able to say what you are saying right now without it. Just because people are expressing their opinions, which is exactly what you are doing right now, does not mean that you have to listen. You need to be able to tolerate the fact that not everybody thinks like you and it is important for you to hear other peoples opinions in order to make your opinion a better, more educated one. You say that you don't want to be controlled, but that's exactly what would happen without free speech. How would you like to get arrested for posting your opinion on the internet? It's a free country, that's why it's great. If they want to waste their time yelling at a brick wall, then they can do that, but you don't have to listen.

you're right, I don't have to listen. But when it gets to the point where its put in front of me unwillingly on something I've been doing basically all my life, thats where it gets to be too much. Say you're watchin tv and all of a sudden someone just has to spread their opinion and completely ruin the subtle mood for everyone. For instance, if you watched the Colbert Report and/or Fox and Friends last week, you'll have seen how when Fox and Friends showed a story about how a dog dialed 911 on a phone to save the owner's life, some guy HAD to go and say that it was impossible and then went on with, "if you put a monkey in front of a typewriter, eventually it will type the bible." Why did he need to go and do that? It was a story of a dog who appearantly dialed 911 with his mouth to save his owner's life! Why do you need to go and do that and just completely ruin the sutble story? Thats just one time. I can recall countless times where I'm sitting there watching tv or I'm at a movie theater or I'm walkin somewhere and someone always has to put out an opinion. My point is that its getting kind of hard to not listen to.

That guy is exactly right. A dog can't dial 911, or at least it can't do it and know what it's doing. I don't see why that's such a big deal, it certainly isn't something so bad that we need to revoke their right to free speech for. I think Ive seen that show too, because I remember a guy saying that a monkey could type the bible if it sat there randomly typing long enough, it didn't bother me, I agreed with him. There is a time and a place for you to let your opinion be heard. Some people choose the wrongs times, that's their mistake. There are annoying people out there that always feel the need to express their opinion when nobody else wants to hear it, that's life, deal with it. But are you seriously saying it is a good idea to take away the peoples right to free speech because a few people get on your nerves? You can't let a few dumb people take away the from the greatness of free speech. And as you said in your first post, you are definitley a hypocrite for expressing your opinion on how you hate it when people express their opinions.

e-man- about the revolutionary thing - you're right I did say that, my bad. I guess I don't consider myself one, but others do since my school is mostly conservative, but i do see things bigger than my school. Unfortunately, I don't think I can do any better. If I were to start something of my own, how many would believe a 16-year old? I'm being realistic, not idealistic in that sense.

"Yelling and complaining just shows them that you are in fact the child that they make you out to be."
Yes, because I'm sure children aren't sheep and definitely try and change things like that. I'm not acting childish at all. The sheep who follows everything is the childish one in my opinion.

Nope. The sheep who follows the others is either afraid to stray from the herd or agrees with the herd enough to stay with them in most cases. The childish sheep is the one who confronts the herding dog and whines and complains to him, only to then recognize that he had many better ways to show his disdain.

I still don't get what you mean by yelling and complaining...I don't go up to the school administration and start yelling and complaining...I go to the people and share my opinion without yelling or complaining. I still don't get what you're on about. O_o

You implied that you protested through yelling, but I guess that isn't what you meant. Anyways, I am just using whining and complaining as a general encompassment of what seems to be your choice of action. It's not worth worrying about though, we are straying off topic. Let's try to get back to the point at hand. [:)]
