^^You mentioned not being an obsessed christian activist...but theres a problem with that. If you never become obsessed with God and Jesus to the point where it doesnt make you want to tell other people, then you are just luke warm. You arent being useful at all if you arent first loving everyone and second making sure they know where the love comes from.
As for IF's comment, expected and sucks to know that because my beliefs differ from his that I suck. A pity that I have nothing against him yet, I suck. :
I dont see where this guy isnt getting proof. I have seen both documentaries and read articles alike that prove Jesus existed. He is mentioned in more than one historical book and there is substantial evidence that He did exist. Whether or not you beleive He did what is recorded is up to each person but His existance is recoreded in more places than just the Bible.
Pump - But to clarify, I do agree that too many people are too far conservative or too far liberal. If you were to place Jesus among those 2 He would fall in the middle. He was neither too conservative nor too liberal but He was a bit of both. He was conservative in ways such as Him never backing down or sacrificing His beliefs. He never compromized what He said nor did He ever do anyything different from what was said. He was liberal though in ways such as Him going to the "bad peoples" houses (tax collectors, prostitutes, lepers, etc) and having meals with them. He did things that were very, very unortodox from current beliefs.
So on one side he was never failing in His word but He also was doing alot that followers of that day NEVER thought of doing because they were too conservative.
Humans do the same thing today. One group of people says that one generation is too liberal, which is true while that generation calls the others too conservative...which is also true. Where am I going with this?
We have to go out and meet peoples needs. Jesus worked on Maslows Heirarchy of needs. He knew that the only way He could get His message across to people was to meet their needs. Check just about every single time He talked or preached His word. He ALWAYS met the persons needs first. When someone was sick, He didnt tell them first how to believe in Him and follow Him. No, first He healed them. When someone was starving (or in His case, thousands) He gave them food and then taught. He never reached out to individuals first without meeting their needs because He knew that if He did just start preaching to someone who was hurting from an illness, they could care less about what He was saying because all they were worried about was their illness. But if He heals them first, well now they just had a miracle performed on them AND they now have their needs met which shows that He cares about them which in turn makes them listen to what He may have to say.
All humans react this way. Everyone has to have their needs met first before they really lsiten to someone. Think about the people in your life who have made the biggest impact on you. I would bet that majority of those people care about you and you know it. Otherwise, why listen to them? If they dont care about you, why care about them right?
Thats why you cant be a closet Christian and just stay out of peoples way to avoid being too overbearing. Its rather quite simple. Just go and meet peoples needs, care about and for them and they will be much more willing to talk and listen to you than say, those overbearing people who just try to shove it down peoples throats.
As for the topic, I already said proof is out there from other texts and documents. Its just a shame that MOST texts that predate the modern era were written more as stories than as "historical documents" that we know today so its rarely taken as legitimate historical data. but thats how things were communicated back before our modern era - by story, not by boring historical texts.

Incorrect. They were written anywhere from 18-30 years. Only the latest of the documents were written 50 years or later. Plus they were written by eye witnesses. Also, many texts were already written and later writers quoted text from those.
So basically it would be like you going to a football game, recording the events. Then me coming along, copying your recording and then quoting you as a first person eye witness. Its not like the people who wrote it were descendants or descendants of descendants or anything. Majority were eye witnesses or quoted existing texts.
Plus you still miss the point if you are trying to look at the bible as pure historical book. As I said, it was originally written as stories of actual events, not a history book. When you look at it from that perspective it becomes alot clearer.
