I'm gettin somethin sayin that my cpu is 58?????????... now I know thats a bit too hot for it to be running. however, that is the reading for "CPU Die" and then there's something under it saying "RT1," which reads 31?????????. The average of those two is 44.5?????????, is that the real temp? I just wanna make sure because, so far, nothing's happened that would show its too hot.
is it in F or C, because if its in F, it's really cool for a CPU, and if its in C, then 123.8 degrees (converted from F to C) is a normal temp for a CPU under load
that's nothing, under load without my vantec tornado on my cpu easily gets above 70*C, otherwise idle it's 62*C, with the tornado on at full load it gets down to 54*C (and the tornado's on the side panel! it's THAT effective!).
but healthy temps differ from processor to processor, what do you have? (core preferable too)
Keep it below 60?????????C, even that's really pushing it. Have you modified anything within the case since you've bought the prebuilt PC, is it a prebuilt?
Hi,
I would check to see if your processor is flush with the heatsink. If it is then you might want remove the old layer of thermal paste and apply a new thin coat of Artic Silver 5 paste.
If that did nothing I would then check to see if your clock speeds are correct.
After that, check to see if you have good airflow in the case. There is no point having loads of fans on a case if it doesn't create air flow. It should act like a mini wind tunnel [;)]
Its wierd, I haven't change anything except the case that its in, and I've used this case before with no problems at all (stable 44?????????C). Also, when I was putting everything into this case, I booted it up, did what I needed with it, then turned it off to re-connect an old hard drive. When I was doing that, I noticed the fan in front of the hard drives wasn't doing anything. So I rearranged the fans to blow the hot air out the back of the case, and everything seemed to be working fine, except for the cpu temp, and I cannot figure out why its running so hot.
When I just booted up now, I went into the BIOS and looked at its readings for temps, and it was reading a stable 44?????????C. However, shortly after doing that, I get on windows, open up the hardware monitor, and it say 57?????????/58?????????.
I'm considering getting a new hsf for it since I'm still using the stock one and its long out of warrantee.
Wait so it's a new case? Make sure all the fan power cords are plugged into the motherboard. And you want to have good airflow, so there should be a fan in the front of the case that sucks new air in, and an outake fan in the back of the case that sucks the hot stuff out. Other cases may have other fans to compliment this system.
If it's just your CPU though you might want to check and see if the heatsink has become disconnected or something, or if it's power is plugged in. Also, as already reccomended, placing new thermal grease on would help, AS5 is the best.
yea I kinda said that I rearranged the fans to blow all the hot air out the back. I'm definately gonna replace the hsf though. I'm playin more games nowadays and I need the extra cooling.
I wouldn't if I were you, 58*C for a newcastle (which is the 1.3um, not the 90nm core) is over average, but not that bad. It'd be a waste of money to get a new cooler unless you're gonna overclock the hell out of it. Newcastles aren't the best at overclocking anyways. Save yourself the money andleave it how it is. Don't fool yourself into thinking you need a new heatsink, it's not like you'll get an extra 400MHz out of it because of a new heatsink. It won't enhance your gaming performance either. The only way I could see you getting a new hsf is if the current one is really loud (and even the stock ones aren't that loud anyways).
mine runs at a cool 24.56 degrees at the moment but that will change by 1 degree depending on weather temp and atmosphere. my computer is cooled by 7 fans, 5 of which are directally on to a liquid cooling system. the other 2 are on to the hard dives.
to save the bother of all this buy a cooler pannel, they fit into a spare cd-drive slot and all you have to do is connect all the fans to it, tell it how hot the cpu should be and it will do thwe rest for you. you can get them from pc would for around ?????????20
