Next, here is sermon I did on "The Uniqueness of the Bible" that may very well help you HEAR and understand a few things about the bible. It was done with another Pastor friend of mine, Rev Ron Davis, about 2 weeks ago at his church. Pay attention to the beginning portions where we talk about the history and complexity of the timeline and authors of the bible.

You might want to give it a listen as well.

as far as "SIDES" go i'm probabaly allied with coaster kid than real,in general, but real's right, you didn't think that through. of course the "research" you did shows the bible as being a book full of craziness, consider the source.. that's like an idiot like rush limbaugh doing research that "proves" that there isn't global warming.. i'd suggest not trying to win an argument with real about something that he obviously knows exponentialy more than you do about, even if i might not agree with his veiws , i greatly admire the fact that he can back them up with more than cut and paste.
True and not true. The original texts do exist, in Aramaic and Hewbrew. How many of you out there know either of those languages? Exactly.
The thing I find alot of people saying and thinking is that the NIV, NAS, etc are translated from say, the KJ or from another book thats already been translated from which is false. Whenever a new book is created its taken directly from the source. This ensures that its not a game of telephone but rather, taken from the actual sources.
As I already did say too, remember the Bible was first written as stories - but nearly all as first hand accounts. Which poses an interesting question.
Whenever it comes to crimes or murders its always the testimony of the person who saw it first hand that matters most. Yet, when it comes to the Bible, (because its the Bible) even though all of the Gospels were written as first hand accounts, its not true?
Go through history. We have tons of documents from people weve never seen, barely heard or etc but they were somewhere seeing something first hand and suddenly its "fact". But, because the Bible is "religious" its completely discredited even though the majority of it was written by people who were there, lived it, breathed it and saw it first hand. Seems just like society right? Thats a whole nother issue for another topic though.
Cstrkdwmn- I hope I havent come off as "coming down" on you. Its honest mistakes to see or hear certain verses without the context and to get a totally - but incorrect reading from them. Ive done it too and had people do the same thing to me in real life. But remember the Bible and its contents were first written as stories from first hand accounts. Later on we seperated it and noted it like it is now for easy access. But just like if you read a random book, you would not just open up mid way and start reading and expect to understand what its saying. You have to read before and after that part to understand.
Do that with all those verses and youll see what I mean.

Then again, many of the verses from the quran that supposedly tell Muslims to kill others etc. are vastly out of context as well. That's the problem with only knowing one religion. One can recognize the out of context parts of their religion, but when it comes to others, one assumes every passage that they see on the news and in school etc is an accurate reflection of that religion, when in fact it twists the said religion out of context just as can be done with the bible. And then there are all the translation issues as well.
The problem is that you are reading just the quotes.
Thats like reading one line from a book without reading the rest of the book. Of course doing just that you could interpret any line in any way almost. But you cant just go and get a single line quote without having the context around it.
You must remember the Bible was NOT written with all the numbers seperating it into chapters. It was originally written in a story form meaning that you HAD to read the whole thing or else you would be lost.
I get the feeling that you got those quotes from anti-christian websites because they would do the same thing - just quote whats pertinant for them and not the rest of the context.
Funny because satan does the same thing when he tempts Jesus during the 40 day fast. Go back and read the entire chapters associated with those verses. Also, try it with a few different translations. The Bible and the Qu'ran can be interpreted in many different ways, so that's all not necessarily true.
whats the point of this argument, in england we hae a lesson tourght in the first 3 years of secondry shool called "relegous education" or "RE". it sorts this out as all aspects of religion for us and we have never had a problem except for the students as it is tearfully boring.

I think you are the people who are brainwashed. If the American Muslims who made friends with Christians went into the Middle East, they would be shot. Those people in the middle east want to destroy America and all other religions. The only reason i am making Catholicism look like a good religion is because I beleive it is. Again with the quote in my last post, if you think that Catholics are taught to be violent, you are wrong. Jesus himself to love our neighbors and our enemies. Islam is not a religion of peace. They are taught in Muslim schools to kill the infidel. I don't about you but that does not seem like a religoin of peace. Mohammed was not a peacful man because he taught his followers to wage war on those who were not his followers. Say what you want but I am going to believe what I think is right.
