I don't think you fully understand what you are saying. Freedom of speech is definitley a good thing, you would not be able to say what you are saying right now without it. Just because people are expressing their opinions, which is exactly what you are doing right now, does not mean that you have to listen. You need to be able to tolerate the fact that not everybody thinks like you and it is important for you to hear other peoples opinions in order to make your opinion a better, more educated one. You say that you don't want to be controlled, but that's exactly what would happen without free speech. How would you like to get arrested for posting your opinion on the internet? It's a free country, that's why it's great. If they want to waste their time yelling at a brick wall, then they can do that, but you don't have to listen.
you're right, I don't have to listen. But when it gets to the point where its put in front of me unwillingly on something I've been doing basically all my life, thats where it gets to be too much. Say you're watchin tv and all of a sudden someone just has to spread their opinion and completely ruin the subtle mood for everyone. For instance, if you watched the Colbert Report and/or Fox and Friends last week, you'll have seen how when Fox and Friends showed a story about how a dog dialed 911 on a phone to save the owner's life, some guy HAD to go and say that it was impossible and then went on with, "if you put a monkey in front of a typewriter, eventually it will type the bible." Why did he need to go and do that? It was a story of a dog who appearantly dialed 911 with his mouth to save his owner's life! Why do you need to go and do that and just completely ruin the sutble story? Thats just one time. I can recall countless times where I'm sitting there watching tv or I'm at a movie theater or I'm walkin somewhere and someone always has to put out an opinion. My point is that its getting kind of hard to not listen to.
