we had to put our dog to sleep a few weeks ago, and we're lookin for a new one, preferrably a puppy. anyone know anywhere we could get one without spending $300+? The breed isn't really relevant yet, we're just lookin for any kinda litter of puppies. The closer to DC the better [:)] I know this is a long shot but we're open, so if you know of anything..

-thanks

Go to the Humane Society. Overall they are pretty cheap, and normally you can get a dog that most of the family can agree on. Depending on the state there may be a "home inspection" just to be sure you can take care of the dog (have a doghouse, etc.) - but they are a great way to go.

Avoid pet shops and puupy mills at all costs! Either adopt one from the pound, or find a house where they breed the type you want. Here's my suggestions for breed sdepending what size you want.

Best tiny dogs: Dachsund, Pug

Best small dog: Beagle, Cocker Spaniel

Best medium dog: English bulldog, Pitbull, Sheltie

Best large dog: Labrador, Golden, Rottweiler

Best huge dog: Great Dane (Don't get St. Bernard cuz they drool too much!)

Hope that helps!

they're cute but I'm lookin for somethin a bit bigger

and humane societies (at least around here) are too protective of where they adopt their dogs. last time we tried getting a dog from one, they had to do like a home visit and everything and most require you to have a fence, which we do not have time or money for right now.

If there is any dog shelter like the dumb friends league, or a buddy center that would be a great place to buy your dog, because there they tipically give the fog the shots before you buy the dog, and they have a big selection to choose from like puppys, and grown dogs, and many different types of breeds, and you get to give those dogs a home, and as always never buy your pet from places like pets smart they all end up with dieseases, which is really sad, like our guinea pigs that we got ended up with this one disease that made them lose all of there hair.
