I think you should just leave the rules the way they are. To add in new rules at this point wouldn't be fair on those who have already got quite far with their tracks, like hyyyper and ECG.

I appreciate your concern, no rule changing. But if people want to bend the rules, im sure thats ok with the judges, but it wouldnt be as realistic.
I just want to have fun, and all the commotion about the rules kinda kills the exitement.

Im ok with rule changing because so far these do not look like backyard rides no offence.

And I'm sure if someone did try to build a really tall coaster, SMer could just take off a point or so for realism, without having to invent any new height rules.

the rides you've seen were build under the original rules of 35feet, the removal of the height limit will only result in ever higher and longer track, so i to agree with putting the height limit back on, perhaps even lowering it

The problem is usually backyard rides are like 1-15ft off the ground or they are terrain coasters, but NL coasters that low just do not look right.

It's because all the train / track styles in NL are too big to be that small. Tracks on normal coasters are probably twice the size of backyard a coaster's track.

I think the rules are pretty solid for now. I'm sure no one is going try a 100 foot backyard coasters since the competition is about backyard coasters and they hardly reach 50 feet. Any height is good if not too high that its actually not a backyard ride no more. Anyway everyone's ride are looking stupendous =] If we do need to change the rules next time I'll host a vote that I can see the best choice.

ECG your ride looks nice I like how you incorporated the all american backyard look with a shed and a bench and some trees[;)]

Edit:Also when the judges are rating (Thru their category ofcourse) and your a contestant competing the only rates that count for the competition are from the judges. I will then find the average of each rate and the one with the best score will win =) Other people can rate ofcourse but they won't count for the competition. I'll go post that in the first post.

^ Not bad, that actually felt a lot like a backyard coaster. Although it did have a lot of smoothness issues, and a couple of places that would probably take your head off.
