very good freinds of mine, very into prog.. much purer in form imo than mars volta in my opinion... and i'm a synth head, so i do have love in my heart for progressive rock.. but i lean a little more to the psychedelic roots. here's a picture of MY favorite drum kit..

at least right now it's been somethiong i've enjoyed using .. it ain't programmable so it tales alot of sample-paste..and of course since i only have pure, vintage analog synths(well o.k. my juno 106 has dcos, but that's splitting hairs) i can make TONS of drum sounds.. ask and ye shall recieve..

little too 70's stoner hippyish for me, i tend to like music with more structure if you know hwat i mean, i still like it tho...i love mars volta because they are so different, who uses saxaphones and hooks a flute up to a distortion pedel to make it duel with guitars?? i mean c'mon, thats just awesome i saw em in concert and they've been my favorite ever since.

I play drums as well (as you can tell from my name). As of now I don't have any good drum set pics, but as for favorite drummers, I have a pretty long list, but one of my favorites is Jojo Mayer.

BTW, Terry Bozzio's set (I didn't take the pic):

i'm not terribly into drums.. when it comes to "amazing " drummers i'm a big fan of keith moon, and ginger baker... BUT as far as my favorite "drumming" that would have to be mo tucker.. not kidding.. i love the sound of simple tom, snare and kick..the less drums the better in my opinion..

are you serious?.. the answer to the flute question is an obvious one, the sax one should be pretty easy too if you're that into prog..
[:D]
having distorted flute or sax in prog is akin to covering a specials song in with a ska band.

No big changes yet, but a double pedal was just ordered today and should be coming. I'll also be looking to get at least another crash soon.

No Phil, it is the standard image I use. Actually, that is not correct -- here is another two images, one with a different set-up.

Um, so you have more to play? Isn't that obvious? Cymbals are just as much a part of a drumset as the drums themselves.

I'm not a drummer, but Kai Hahto is amazing:

Easily my favorite drummer, his work with Wintersun is incredible.

Simple J -- It adds to not only the visual aspect, but sounds as well.

man, those cymbals must've cost a fortune. They only cost so much because they're hand made.

i have TWO drumsticks.. and a shizload of shaker egg, a triangle and a tambourine, and one of them yamaha electronic drum thingys that give people carpal tunnel syndrome and a roland tr 505 and a bunch of old casio/yamaha etc keyboards with drum sounds , and a zoom mrt 3a. and my tr 77 and ther rythm unit on my viscount ufo 61 and access to an infinate number of drum sounds from my synths. oh and an old floor tom that sounds really crappy.. and i'm borrowing my freinds vintage ludwig floor tom for a project i'm working on now.

Not really a fortune, but then again, I have as many in the pic in storage right now (just no use for them). Over the years I have spent some dough on the kit, but it is the same kit I bought in 1986 and sounds just as tight as it did when I bought it.
