Its been rumoured for a while Thorpe would be getting a new coaster for 2008, and most expected a B&M floorless. But we were wrong - Its a Eurofighter. Thorpe Park submitted a planning application yesterday showing not only the layout of the coaster and the area, but also the proposed themeing. Here are all the pdf files (i've marked the most interesting ones with a smiley for those of you who are easily bored):

The layout looks pretty good. Three inversions by the looks of it (1 heartline roll, 2 immelmans) and a steep overbanked turn. The plans also show some promising attempts at themeing, nothing too major, but much more exciting than any of the other thorpe park themeing.

Before anyone mentions problems with capacity as well, that shouldnt be that worrying. The layout is quite short with 2MCBs and a pre lift section. Not sure it will be TOO MUCH of a problem.

Thoughts and comments...?

Looks like a nice fit

I wouldn't have 2 MCBRs though...the rest is cool

Probably '08/'09 the island looks so much smaller though in real and they've put a triangular shaped "foundation" in. Well they could start getting their arses in gear over the holidays and make the land bigger. But i reckon it's going to be either summer '08 or beginning of '09. But saying that they did put Stealth up in 5 months.

The layout looks great, this'll be my first eurofighter. The layout looks intresting, i hope they do good theming.

Also are they gonna build around loggers or take it down?

They have to make more land no? surely there's not that much land there now?
edit: Ah i see on one of the planning permitions: * Building of Island H* or whatever, so it means they have to make that land

Ah! i really love the mine themed station!

the land looks very small for this but from the map it looks very much to scale to me and the right size. those maps are very wierd to read and make the area look bigger then it will be. compare the size of the building to where samuri and colossus sit.

but hell yeah 3rd eurofighter for the uk

nothings wrong with the aztec themeing on collosus but as with every coaster in thorpe it needs it own themeing.

still looks like a great ride im glad the last section of the ride is indoors too

Nope i didnt mean '09. I was referring too the B&M that had been expected for next year. But yes, this would be for '09. Worded it slightly badly, sorry. I'll change it.

And nope, theres nothing wrong with colossus' themeing. Just the plans seem to show even more than has even been seen at Thorpe. An indoor pre lift section WITH a barrel roll would just be great! Especially if there was some sort of themeing in there aswell, rather than it just being dark.

It looks more like a Mystery Mine type ride than a Speed, which is definitely a good thing! [:D]

Gaz, I'm pretty sure that it's the start section of the ride that's indoors, not the final section.

Looks great, I love the little indoor prelift section, that roll will be an awesome surprise for most people.

Edit: On another note (kind of relevant) the Eurofighter at the Mall of America looks like it's about to go vertical. I was there last night and it looks like they've got all of the footers for the ride in place.

Spongebob Squarepants Rock Bottom Plunge...they can't be serious about that name. It is not a kiddie ride! It's a big buff bad-ass Gerstlauer! [B)]

About Thorpe's EFighter: Am I the only one that can't understand the layout and this amazing prelift section from those comprehensive prints? I need help...

your right dan, its at the start.

itd easy enough to understand, the coaster looks bigger on them than it acctually will be. think mystery mine with 90% of the ride outside. drop, turn turn heartline roll, turn, lift, drop and so it goes on. its an intresting layout indeed and to me looks like it goes over and around the samuri and logflume
