This past weekend I was able to attend the Red Bull Air Race in Detroit that took place over the Detroit river in basically what was a two-nation event since part of the track was over Canadian waters and the other part over American waters.

Ive seen this stuff on tv and its just amazing. When I saw it was coming to Detroit I flipped out because other than San Diego its global - so I thought there was little chance Id ever get to see it in person.

Kirby Chambliss won (from the US) and beat out the Brit Paul Bonhomme who had won the first two events of the year. Paul was faster all day but when it counted he lost to Kirby by .15 of a second.

These Air Races are accompanied by: Historical planes, aerobatic demonstrations, formation flying, 700mph fly bys, skydiving and extreme parachuting. Well worth the 30 dollar 2 day ticket EVEN though the first day was canceled do to high winds. If you live on the east coast (or its coming to London) and enjoy anything that flys this is a MUST. The Red Bull Air Racing is some of the craziest, if not the most amazing race you will ever see.

Few pictures. More later - need to edit them.

It's amazing, and don't forget Rotterdam, they're coming over here in a couple of weeks. It's just awesome, I live so close that I saw them flying from my bedroom window 2 years ago! [:D]

Lucky. Though Ive heard unfortunatly that at Rotterdam they wont be flying under the Erasmus Bridge like they have last time they were there. They are also going to charge quite a bit more money than I paid for my two day tickets.

Still, this sure beats car motorsports by a long shot.

No Erasmus Bridge, damn, that was one awesome part of the course. '
But it definately beats motorsports.

That competition is so fun to watch. One of the lesser-appreciated competitions.

Hopefully with more venues like Detroit and across the world itll gain alot more exposure. Apparently its more Global than here in the states. We get large crowds but they say alot of their viewership on tv is across the seas.

I'll probably be in France when they're in Rotterdam, so that's total crap. I thought I'd head up there and enjoy but no luck..
Btw, nice pictures Real.

I'm waiting for a Red Bull Air Race to go wrong and for one of the planes to plough into the crowd on one of the river banks... now THAT is entertainment

I was looking forward to going but things didn't work out for me to stay in the midwest this summer.

If any one has Flight Sim X there are a few courses that come with its expansion pack and 1 that comes with the standard game. I'm sure there are some available for download somewhere to. But they are quite a challenge. After bumping up the flight model to max settings you will find truly how much of a challenge it is to not crash. I've only completed it a handful of times on those settings. ****** "knife-edge" passes.
