OK so recently I purchased and assembled a new PC.

Intel Core 2 Quad q9550 @ 2.8ghz OC'd to 3.4ghz 400fsb 1.275v

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850 512mb 800 stream processors

Gigabyte X48-DS4 Motherboard

2x2gb Corsair RAM DDR2 800 4-4-4-12

2 x 320gb Seagate HDs + 1 old WD 250gb

Coolermaster Centurion 590 case + 5 120mm fans

Corsair 520w PSU

Acer AL2016WBbd Black 20" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor

Logitech G-5 Mouse

Logitech Z-2300 2.1 speakers

Zalman 9500 Heatsink

Some Samsung CD Drive

Soon I'll buy another 4850 and 4 more gigs of RAM yay.

What is everyone else running?

Nice system, 4850 seems a bit low compaired to the rest. 4870 would fit better in your set-up. :P

And why an extra 4 gig memory. It will only slow your system down coping with the amount of memory, next to it nothing uses that many.

How would having more memory slow the computer down? That makes no sense.

Nice computer, I bet you really love your parents extra this month. [:P]

My computer is nothing special to write about and is a relic compared to anything out today.

yeah, there are computers you can buy now with 6 gigs of ram.
its only going to help.
my friend just got a computer that has 4 gigs, and it says it can run 8.
as long as you have ram sticks that are all the same size.
like dont have one thats 2 gigs, and one thats 1 gig.
make sure you get them all the same size, like all 2 gig sticks or something.
ive heard getting different sizes wont slow your computer down, but it'll slow it down compared to if you had all the same size.
like 4 gigs of ram made up of one 2 gig stick, and two 1 gig sticks, will run slower then a computer with two, 2 gig sticks.
hopefully that made sense. :/

i would love to have 4 gigs of ram, run dual or even three monitors.
that would be sweet.
go for more ram!

Just remember you will need to run the 64bit version of Vista or XP to actually use more than 3gb of that memory. [:P]

Ho ho ho I bought this myself :-P.

Yeah I have XP Pro x64 or w/e.

I would get a 4870 but I was planning on crossfire and at my lowly 1680x1050 resolution there is not enough difference in FPS to justify the extra 200$ needed for a 4870 crossfire over a 4850 setup.

2.4 GHz Intel core 2 Duo, 1 Gig of RAM, Western Digital 320 GB HDD, ATI Radeon HD 2600, 20" display.

That's what I'm using.

you got a brand new computer, and you got XP??? :/
gross, vista is the right choice man.
i dont care what people say, its great!
anybody who has it, loves it!
except a few people that are too stupid to work a computer.
any half way intelligent person can use vista!
its amazing, and ive had no problems using it.

i said all that just in case there are some people that were going to say it sucks.
not saying you, just backing myself up before hand, lol.

Eh, both have their ups and downs at the moment, its mostly a personal choice unless you are running a business of some sort.

and yeah, thats very true.
i know how you make all your music and stuff(which is awesome by the way)
and TMV had to switch back to XP cause protools isnt compatible with vista.
so you are definitely making the right choice to stay with XP.

My system is about 3 years old, but still going strong. Hasn't ever been reformatted and I've never run into a problem that I couldn't find the solution to myself. I kind of lost interest in computers and don't remember all the specifics of it lol, just the basic specs. Still does what I need it to so I doubt I'll be buying a new one anytime soon.

Windows XP
Chaintech motherboard, M1689 I think.
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
2gb of Corsair XMS DDR I guess.
EVGA GeForce 7600GS AGP (I started with a 6600GT, but it decided to die)
Seagate IDE 80gb 7200rpm
Seagate SATA 500gb 7200rpm comes out to be 540 usable GB.
Creative Soundblaster Audigy SE (if I upgrade anything, it will be this)
Cambridge Soundworks MicroWorks II speakers, though I hook into my real system occasionally to play FLAC albums (Onkyo 502, Cambridge Soundworks M80s, and a Cambridge Soundworks P205 sub).

Oh, and it's been running for 1 month, 1 day, and 11 hours.

MY PC was bought assambled, so I don't really know all the stats, but, w/e:
Visto home basic
Intel core 2 duo - 2.2 Ghz
3 GB of ram
500 GB sata disc
some sony CD/DVD unit
Nvidia Gforce 8500 GT or something
I also have a 19" LG screen, a logitech mouse and keyboard, that came with the computer, and some cheap logitech Speakers.
Surprisingly, it plays crysis on high, quite smoothly

And than there's my laptop:
Vista home premium
AMD turion 64 x2 - 2.0 GhZ
Nvidia gforce 8600 GX
2 GB of ram
2x 120 GB dics
It's pretty
15.4 inch screen
Dolby digital lie sound system

BTW, I really like Vista, but if one of my computers came with XP, I would keep it...

Jimmy did you try out the stock intel cooler before you installed the Zalman cooler?

I just got a new cpu and the Intel cooler is proving to be very troublesome with the sloppy push pins it uses to hold it down. I push in one side and the others pop out. Just curious to see if you had this problem.

Oh yeah I tried the Intel stock one. It is a pain in the butt man. Good luck not breaking your mobo in half haha.

Oh and I got XP-64 from a friend and it was free that's why I got it haha.

Yeah I really want Vista 64 since Apple decided to let iTunes run on that and not XP 64 and of course for other reasons like it looks sweet, but I don't have $250 to drop on a retail copy right now.

I don't know about all this technical computer stuff, but I do know enough to say that Vista was absolutely terrible for the few months that I had it. I just use my computer for simple stuff like Internet and a few games, but it was terrible enough for me to actually go and reinstall XP. Too many things were wrong with it, die Vista!

are you serious???
what kinda of problems could you possibly have doing those simple things?
i dont think thats a "vista" problem, i think thats a "someone doesnt know how to use his computer" problem.
vista is great, and i think the only people who dont like it, just dont know how to use a computer.
i do more complex things then internet and games on my computer, and i have no problem.

I have had the same system for 3 years now and I still hate it..

Lenovo 3000 C100
OS: Windows XP Professional SP2
CPU: Intel Pentium M processor 1.73Ghz - 2,048 KB of L2 cache
RAM: 667Mhz DDR2 - 1,528 MB
Mainboard: LENOVO HEL00
GPU: Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family - 128 MB
Monitor: Plug and Play - 1024x768
HD: 69.51 GB - 4800 RPM

I finally have a job now and am in the process of building my first desktop. It'll take a long time though to get it up and running considering I get $7.00 an hour and I spend more than 50% of my paychecks on gas
