Hi, i was wonderig if anyone would help me with roller coaster physics. I am making a real coaster, but need help. If you are willing, PM me for details of the coaster.

Thanks!!

Unless you are willing to be a little more specific (provide more info that would make people want to help), this might be a great place to start:

ok, well, here goes:

coaster details- Iron man (and it has to be good because I want to present it to Universal in the future)

height-175'

launch speed-90 mph

coaster type- flying

Those are all the details I have about the coaster- now here are the problems with my physics- Everything!!!

Could someone please help, I am willing to share the profit if Universal accepts the idea!!

Thanks,
kelly

I believe Universal can come up with which rides they would like and let the design over to real proffessionals.

I do not mean to discourage you from desinging rollercoasters, just don't think any park/company will take you serious.

How do you plan on launching a flyer to 90 mph and making it comfortable?

As for physics, here's all you need to start working in NL:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton%27s_laws_of_motion
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G_force

If you want more specific questions answered, I tutor engineering, math, and physics and can probably help if you send me a PM.

As for pitching this to Universal, they usually contract the rides out to design firms like B&M, as hyyyper said. The only way they might take you seriously at all is if you're an experienced professional engineer, in which case I doubt you'd be asking for help with physics [:P]. If you really want to design, become a structural or mechanical engineer and get a job with one of these firms. And remember, it's definitely NOT about the money!

Although seemingly lacking experience in the field, the idea is a good one as far as themeing a ride goes. Although launching a flyer to 90mph... er... no. But having seen the film quite a few times, a launching flyer themed around Iron Man is certainly an idea that has mileage, I can just see the red a yellow now!

I say just pitch the idea as just that to universal, the worst they can do is refuse you any kind of reply. Pretty sure they would have probably got there next few years construction lined up though so...

My Iron Man Blu-Ray came yesterday even though it's not officially out til tomorrow! [:D]

Also, I actually am a Mechanical Design Engineer, I design special purpose machinery, reckon universal might take an idea from me seriously? [lol]

So youre saying that a flyer launched that fast wouldnt work? what speed would work that wouldnt be too slow?

Well, actually, thinking about it, you wouldn't have any problems really launching a flyer with pretty decent speed it would be just like tipping a shot tower on it's side (in terms of human physicallity). The main problem with this though is that Flyers and Rocket coasters both tend to have a lot of down time, flyers expecially. And if it was that you had a launched flyer, you'd be talking serious downtime, like it would be closed for more than 50% of the time. Maybe with a lot of development and time and money, it could be the case that much more reliable systems for both coaster types would be available, then a mix of the two might become more viable.
