^In real life, probably not. But in coaster-fantasy world, where I needed a bigger template to make up for the extra cost of the land... yep absolutely! [;)]

I'll give it a try this'll be my first contest ever n I've been dying to try my building skills out in a contest.

Just in a rough guess, how much would it cost to remove trees?
This space not for sale.

Not a lot. Maybe $2,000 each. The real trouble is that having to build access roads deep in the woods, and then positioning the construction equipment, is a lot harder than in deforested areas. Being deep in the woods can cost as much as 30% more in the labor department. Which, when combined with the cost of coaster parts, means around 15% more overall, depending on the terrain and the track height.

OTHER NOTE:
The budget category is very subjective. It's not really a mathematical formula. If it looks like it's close to $15 million, based on the list of what makes it more expensive which I gave in the topic page, and uses its track to its full advantage, expect a great score. If it builds high and in the middle of hilly woods without using that to its full advantage, it won't get a good budget score.

Is launched allowed?

(added to rules) Yes, launches are certainly allowed. However, they cost about twice as much lift hills, depending on their configuration. The longer the launch track, the quicker it accelerates, and the higher it is off the ground, the more expensive. Once the launch is over, though, the same rules apply, which means that you can offset some of the cost with the advantage of starting lower to the ground.

Certainly. I've always allowed Behind the Fence posts, as well as test riding and other such things.

Nothing, unfortunately. It's a NoLimits contest, and I don't have Scream Machines, so I couldn't even ride your entry if it was.

If you would like a Scream Machines contest, ask Oscar and the staff. I know they were talking about doing another SM contest a while ago, so see if they can find someone to host one.

Does this mean it's a better idea to get rid of trees around your coaster? Or would deleting the ones in the general area of your layout end up costing more than position the equipment and access roads?

^No. The increased labor cost includes cutting down / uprooting trees that are in the way of the coaster and the access roads. Cutting down more will only add to your budget. I guess I mis-worded. The increased cost is a RESULT of having to clear away the forest and build long roads to get into it, not because there are leftover trees that get in the way of the cranes.

Plus, I'll add to that. As seen with The Raven, The Legend, and The Voyage, Will Koch generally frowns upon the cutting down of trees. It will also take away from your adrenaline score, because close calls with trees are a big plus. So, yeah, save the trees!

Sorry for the confusion. The front page has been re-worded as well to clarify the budget category for everyone.

^Yes, as long as scenery is allowed in that area. (In other words, anywhwere except under the blue "x" in Template 1, and over the blue lines in Template 2.)

If you are adding trees just to add more detail to the forests, they won't add to your overall cost. Nor will other existing Holiday World objects. If you are planting trees where there are none, however, or adding new scene objects, they will count.

([lol] man, this budget thing is screwing everything up. I'm glad I tested it here before implementing it in my 'big' contest idea...)

When Tunnel testing, does it includes tunnel to tunnel or only track to tunnel? Because loops can get a tunnel to tunnel intrusion with being able to touch the track.

^As usual, I don't swear by the tunnel test. Unless a tunnel-to-tunnel is in the same block, and within the reach of riders, it's not a collision. Other collisions will be judged on an individual basis. Generally, I give about 12 feet of clearance from the track, and 5 feet on each side of the train.

Good to hear. I was testing it here, because it is a big factor in the contest which I have been meticulously planning for the last couple of years, and I want that one to be absolutely perfect. And now I know to make it less complicated. (That upcoming contest is also what I was doing the research for, by the way, so let that be a little teaser. [;)])
