We all heard about it so many times and its only days away. This is just not going to happen or if something amazing going to happen. All other predictions they made, nothing happened.

Why has this particular apocalyptic prediction received so much press? Humans are very odd creatures; so many have such bizarre supersitions and religious constructs. We are a species of nutcases.

Anyone who has any kind of belief that the world will end next week, please inbox me for my address and you can send me anything valuable you own. Afterall, if the world is going to end, you won't need it.

it just simply marks the aligning of the the planet, something that only happens every 5000+ years. It makes sense that the mayan calendar ends because who would want to count up to an extra 5000 years. Theres really nothing superstitious about it.
What are these for?

This is true, but the reason they made a movie about it, is because it was popular [lol]

The calender ends on the Mayan year 13.0.0.0.0, which is simply the calender clicking over to a new number in the first spot. That simply must have been a convenient time to end it. Granted, they may have ended it there because in the Mayan religion, the creation prior to this current one lasted 13.0.0.0.0 years, which makes sense as to why they stopped there.

There's also the issue that time is infinite, and stone is not.

There's also the issue that the Mayans didn't use the same leap year format that our current Gregorian calender now does, and therefore, in actuality, the Mayan calendar ran out years ago.

There's also the issue that time is nothing but a Human construct to represent our movement through the 4th dimension. Time doesn't exist; clocks and calendars exist - none of which have any bearing on what happens to the universe.

^ One the first part, the mayans were more accurate than the Gregorian calendar. But again, it just simply represents a celestial year. meaning the planets align. Its really simple

If it does turn out to be the end of the world, at least this is the last Monday we'll all have to endure. :D

Ahh, interesting. Then I retract that particular statement! [lol]

Still; anyone planning to send me their valuables?

Mass has a direct affect on the force of gravity; the greater the mass of an object, the greater its attractive force will be. Water has a lot of mass; there is a lot of frozen water in a glacier; thus slightly affecting the Earth's gravitational pull at that specific point; as the moon passes, it's orbit is slightly affected as it is pulled on very slightly harder by the Earth than it otherwise would be at that specific point. (This could very well be false lol)

The movement of water also has other effects - especially since Humans came along. First, imagine an ice skater/dancer spinning on the ice, if they want to spin faster they hold their arms in tight to their body and they begin to spin faster. If, however, they want to spin slower, they spread their arms, which moves mass away from the centre of the rotation and thanks to the preservation of angular momentum; the rotation slows down. Now, imagine the case of a massive reservoir, like behind the Hoover Damn, for example; a giant mass of water is now stored 100's of feet higher (further from the Earth's centre of rotation) than it would naturally be - this has the exact same effect as with the dancer's arms and actually very slightly slows the Earth's rotation. As a result of all the resevoirs across the globe, especially with the addition of some of China's monster reservoirs; a year on Earth is a fraction of a second longer than it was 100 years ago. This is also true of big glaciers, though, and as they move of huge time periods, so does the rotation of Earth slightly change - this also has an affect on the Moon's own orbit.

My only theory to the world's end has nothing to do with the Mayan apocalypse. I believe that the world's top billionaires would all pull their money from the system, causing the world's strongest economies to crumble. This would lead to a fallout, war, and eventually anarchy and nuclear war, ending our existance.

That is actually plausible, but wouldn't happen over the period of a single day.

In timely fashion, one of my favourite Youtubers just uploaded this, I found it most amusing, as always:
