I've been slowly making a 2nd version of the No Limits Development Center.

I have the majority of it done, but I need some feedback on how the site should be navigated.

As it stands, every user will have a profile page. On this profile page, all of the users "parks" will be listed (can also list rides in the park). Clicking on a link to a park, will list details on the park as well as links to all of the rides in that park. Does that make sense? I tried to lay it out how No Limits 2 works. You can have a park with multiple rides inside of it.

Thoughts? Input?

My thoughts lately have been to redo the profile page and make it much simpler, with less images and colour.

Looks good so far and I like the simplicity of the design. I'm assuming if we had 4 rides in a park the second image would have 4 options etc etc?

Yeah I like the simplicity of the design too! I think the navigation setup works as well - intuitive to keep it the same as NL2.

Yeah exactly.

I figured keeping it simple is the best bet. That's one thing I liked about the original NLDC. It was simple and just worked.

Actually, the issue is that we have a scrap yard and development / showcase area that is coming in a few weeks. It was part of the original SOW, but was not part of the launch as it wasn't ready yet.

So it's kinda like eh, ok, another site that we have to compete with. We do something, and then someone else wants to copy it. So rather then have one busy site, the community is stretched then over many small sites that have a tendency to disappear suddenly.

To be fair, no one is copying your idea. The idea for this site spawned from Riscit's orginal NLDC (http://www.nolimitsdevcenter.net/), which as you can see, has been "closed" for quite some time now. It was a site that provided a service that could be used across all No Limits exchange sites.

For the record, I'm not doing this to divert traffic from here or anywhere else, this is a project that I have been working on (very slowly) since January. Whether you implement the same sort of feature will have no bearing on whether I complete this or not. Projects like this help to build my troubleshooting skills and practices, and as a junior network administrator, I need all the help and practice I can get doing this sort of thing. Keeps the mind fresh..

And for what its worth, I asked Oscar before I started this if he was planning on doing the same thing, so as not to waste my time on it.

I don't see what the problem is. The NLDC used to exist along with WWS/CC and CS back in the day. I don't why it shouldn't be able to do so now.

I'm not even bothering with the tools or the scrap yard. Its basically somewhere that you can post information on your rides, along with a bunch of screenshots and YouTube videos.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that you can commit the time and effort into creating something for the community. I think it's even better that you are using what amounts to a hobby, and using that to further your career. The best technologist out there are the kind that work 10 hours a day on computers, and then go home and work some more on the computer.

From a marketing perspective however, the nolimits community is getting very saturated with sites. This makes it more difficult to have a single thriving community in a unique niche market when the finite amount of users are spread out over multiple sites. It doesn't matter if they are quality sites or not, it is merely the fact that they exist from an SEO standpoint that makes them competitors. Ultimately the market gets over saturated and then it no longer makes sense to keep sites running because the traffic to them takes a nose dive. This is of course further complicated by product life cycles of the games that our users play. As interest fades in the game the popularity drops, etc.

Still plugging away at this, although it has been very slow. There just isn't enough time during the day...

That being said though, it is very close to being done.

Does anyone want to help test and provide feedback on the layout and stuff? Open to anyone who wants to give it a whirl.

Quickly created the individual screenshot image page today. There is a screenshot description section, but it is hidden if there is no description in the database.

I was also planning (and did most of the work) for posting comments on rides and screenshots, but I've axed that. There isn't much point to that, if this will mostly be used to share content to NoLimits exchange sites where people are already commenting. Perhaps in the future...
