New Ferrari Themed Area coming to PortAventura in 2016.
Looks like a new Strata Coaster will be built with it with a possible Zumanjaro type ride attached.

Port Aventura will invest 100million Euros in the construction of a new area dedicated to Ferrari. It will be called Ferrari Land where it will be placed in the resort of the park. It is still undecided if it will be a theme park with its own access like in the case of the typical theme park or if it will be part of the rest of the complex. The new area is the fruit of the arrangement signed today between Ferrari and Bonomi Investidustrial, the owning company of the premises.

The park will be the second Tarragona area dedicated to Ferrari in a leisure complex, after having the first in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), Ferrari World. According to forecasts, the park will open in 2016. The Ferrari Land will fit in an area of ????????????75,000 square meters and will have new attractions inspired by the Prancing Horse and designed for all ages. In a statement, Port Aventura ensures that among these attractions, "the highest and fastest vertical accelerator (roller coaster) in Europe" will reside here. Besides the park, in the new area which will also be "the first Ferrari theme hotel", five stars and 250 rooms, restaurants, shops and "broad areas of race car simulators," the statement said.

Opened in late 2010, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi park covers an area of ????????????200,000 square meters (86,000 of them covered) located next to the Yas Marina circuit. The inauguration was attended by Formula 1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, who gave the first round to the Formula Rossa rollercoaster, which is the icon of the park. Andrea Perrone, managing director of Brand Ferrari (the company that controls the activities related to the brand), says that after the success of the park in the UAE, the brand had received "many requests to build new parks "and they have opted for the complex of Tarragona is for their" strength "and" the opportunity to bring the spirit of Ferrari to Spain, where we have many fans and supporters." Perrone also highlights the opportunity that the new park will "strengthen the brand of Ferrari in Europe."

Image

Port Aventura recalls in his note that Ferrari has been ranked for the second year in February as the most valuable brand in the world ranking in the Global 500 Report and Port Aventura has been considered the second "major resort destination in Europe and the first of Mediterranean ". Port Aventura annually receives four million visitors, half of them are foreign tourists. The resort has invested 125 million euros since 2009 in the playpen such as expansions to S??????samo Aventura, Shambhala coaster (the highest in Europe) and Costa Caribe Aquatic Park. The new fairground Tarragona would add to the leisure with which promoters have BCN World project to support its future complex of hotels, casinos, leisure and shopping.

Tallest in Europe but not tallest in the world. I wonder if this will be a giga Accelerator coaster or something like that?

It will probably be just a bit higher that Stealth at Thorpe Park, which is the highest 'vertical accelerator coaster' in Europe at the moment.

it just looks like a shorter kingda-ka without the 270 degree roll on the descent

EDIT: just scrutinized the pic more, there is the roll there....so its basically just a Ka clone

Yay a clone that I can ride in the UK resulting in the queue for Shambhala to be shorter!

I still think it will be a 400+ coaster.
Especially with the successful run of Formula Rossa, wouldn't surprise me if a Ferrari themed area decided to go vertical this time.

Since other launch coasters are making really big hits, I still feel bad for Ring Racer in Germany which has failed operating too many times so far.

I kind of see this as a middle finger from PA to ring racer for taking their fastest coaster in Europe title.

I'm excited for this, especially given that the only tall accelerator in Europe is will only be a 30 min flight from me.

Big rumor from screamscape coming from this: 459.3 feet tall.

Press conference on 7th May to announce the project - so just over a week until we find out if this is a record breaker!

It would be nice to have the tallest accelerator coaster so close to my home, but being honest, an ISpeed clone or something like that would make me more excited. A strata has a great launch, and it's big (obviusly), but that's all. I prefer good layouts to records... Well, I'll be there on opening year anyway.

I agree, I prefer good layouts to records... however ISpeed / new ride at Phantasialand / etc are far far far more accessible for us Europeans than TTD and Kingda Ka - which is why, in this particular case, I perhaps lean towards having a strata coaster.

Agreed. As much as I'd prefer iSpeed, Europe already has iSpeed - so this good for variety in Europe. Stealth is the closest thing we have to this, and it's miniature by comparison.

Loved Kingda Ka's launch in the front row and thought it was probably something I'd never get to experience again, so I'm glad they've gone for this for that reason also - as it means I likely get to go on it!

Much as I love a full layout, to me there's nothing like the thrill of a launch and subsequent speed/power like Kingda Ka or TTD. Front row I generally enjoy as much as Toro (which is on the same level of the thrill of iSpeed...decently long layout, high speed, strong forces), and often I find it more exciting. It's a short ride at like 35 seconds from start of launch to the end of the camelback, but I generally never come off remotely disappointed. Only exception was last year since they changed the restraints for slightly shorter ones (I'm a tall guy) and the train I rode was very shaky. That made for an uncomfortable, maybe even a bit painful of a ride, even in the front. Through most of my other what 80+ rides over the years, it's been a great thrill and one I'm very happy to have at one of my home parks.

Hmmm... The original concept was already tallest in Europe. Which only seemed logical to me, due to minimizing all the problems which Stratas have on extreme speeds and heights. Which means they need to top at least 160km/u (counting along the current SBNO Ring Racer) and/or 76m tall.

Perhaps in conversations with the manufacturer, they have found a way for a better reliability on higher speeds? Would be great to see the world record being broken again. (Perhaps in even Speed and Height, so faster than 240km/u and taller than 140m)

It's been almost a decade since the last strata opened, and it's been almost 5 years since the last hydraulic launch coaster was built. Personally I'd think Intamin would have had enough time to possibly refine the launch technology a bit more.

I think either NL and NL2's speed estimates are off, or the parks are advertising the wrong speed, because whenever someone makes a recreation of one of the current strata coasters, it's always much slower than the real ride and has the same pacing. Kingda Ka and TTD don't always launch at top speed, sometimes much faster. But even if it was significantly faster the forces are still in check. Kingda Ka recreations for example always have a top speed of 120 mph or less, and if you put in 128 the forces are way too intense. The real ride sometimes goes far past 130mph but the forces are still in check (you can tell, you know, because the riders are alive and all :D ) It seems random but I thought of that for some reason.

Anyway, I would be a bit ticked off because we lost the height and speed record, but I'm glad Intamin is getting back into the huge hydraulic launch coaster game. Hopefully they learned from past mistakes and this time they can design a reliable system. (We either lose the record to this, or Skyscraper anyway)

I don't think it will take the record though, as if they were aiming for the world record they would have said so; they specifically said it would be the tallest in Europe. These are my two cents, and I just want my home park to keep the record for a little longer :)

Yeah, I understand your point, but having Baco in the same park (and asuming acceleration is similar on both rides) only leaves you with the speed and height (which for me isn't relevant on a coaster. You spend very little time up there). They could have used a slower launch (something on giga proportions) and use the money saved for making a longer layout. But anyway, I'm happy with whatever they come with.

I think that's due to two things:

- The moment when the train stops accelerating: if you specify a launch section of the samd lenght as Kingda Ka, the train will continue at your specified speed until the last car clears the launch. I think the real train stops earlier.

- The friction and air resistance. I guess the default values are wrong. You can change them if you have the pro version, but it's not an easy task.

Not surw though, correct me if I'm wrong :)

Yeah but... 460ft up in the air. That's something you don't even come close to experiencing in Europe.

NL also is an idealized model. Ideal train drag, 4 perfect wheels, no external wind to alter the velocity of the ride at any point - plus as Dapalm mentioned the launch won't operate quite in the same way.

Yeah I hear you with Baco. Still, Baco's acceleration may be like that of Kingda Ka, but the speed is more in the range of Storm Runner. 10MPH faster launch, yes, but still similar enough for me to use as an example because I've ridden it a solid number of times. Storm Runner's launch force may be as intense as that of Kingda Ka, and it's great fun, but that extra 50+MPH and acceleration time to me makes a HUGE difference, in the front rows anyways. Kingda Ka does a lot less, and Storm Runner is amazing for what it is, but I don't find many rides as exhilarating as a front row ride on Ka despite any shortcomings that have or haven't been acknowledged.

With that said, maybe Baco is a different story because it has one of the highest average speeds of any coaster, if not the highest. Still 120-128 is just something else for me.

In reference to your note about KK stopping its acceleration, yes it stops accelerating and coasts for around 1.5 seconds at the end of the launch track. One of my favorite parts of the ride :) For some reason I noticed the acceleration ending a lot more on TTD. Not sure if it's different on KK, or if I expected it and as such don't notice it enough for it to detract from the launch experience. *shrugs*

Speed and height not relevant? Regardless of force a ~130mph launch is not remotely in the same league as one at 84mph, and even if little time is spent at the apex there is still the incredible ascent to solidify the fact that you've just reached skyscraper height. The views are brief, but breathtaking, the launch simply unparalleled and you won't experience a drop like that elsewhere. Neither TTD or Kingda Ka are in my top 10 as they are totally one-trick ponies, but I'll be damned if it's not a worthwhile trick. The only thing that's not relevant here is comparisons to Baco.

I just want to say this, Intamin is building 2 strata coasters with height records right now... Hopefully they both go through.

It's supposed to be going to one of the new Wanda parks along with a wingrider.

Really hope this one actually happens, since we still haven't seen anything on the tilt coaster they are supposed to be opening this year in another park.

^My God; how ENORMOUS must that loop be to exist on a strata (almost in the 500ft range!). Highly doubt that's ever happening. Wingrider is extremely likely though.
