Probably safe to say you're not the only one who thought that. Lots of people I don't know around these forums now, I guess I wasn't around for quite some time, that makes sense...

Maybe, but Oscar knows me well enough, I used to upgrade every 4 or 5 months...

Ha, I used to build computers for people so I'd sell them my 5 month old motherboard and CPU and often graphics card at a discount and get new stuff for myself.

That was also in the Pentium III and Pentium 4 days where they were changing clock speeds every 4 weeks and the faster clock speeds actually made a huge difference.

Not like now where unless you're playing some heavy duty games you don't really need a super fast CPU with piles of RAM. A Core i3 or i5 paired with an SSD will make Windows 7 fly, regardless of a lower clock speed (Lower being a relative term since they are all 2+ ghz) where back in the day the jump from a Pentium 4 2 ghz to a 2.4 ghz machine running Windows XP made a huge difference. Never mind Windows 98 on a Pentium MMX at 200 MHz to a Pentium III at 500 MHz.

I had an 11 year old Dell desktop that was so beat up that portions of the RAM were "dying" so I'd turn on the computer and it would freak out the engineering/comp sci people because the RAM wasn't in intervals of 8.

I think it had 604 RAM by the time it totally died (down from 768). Now I'm wrestling with the most god-awful weird hybrid solid-state drive that microfreezes the computer every time it spins up. The hatred of this drive on the Lenovo support forums is hilarious, because you can do nothing to fix it. Unfortunately the hybrid drive in this thing wasn't advertised as such......

I had a 386SX with 1 MB of RAM back in the day. Had to upgrade to 4 MB to run SimCity 2000... RAM was about $1 per MB... Imagine that now, I have 16GB... That'd be kinda pricey.
