Please somebody tell me that I am wrong on this...

I played around with the RCT3 demo today. I really liked the program. The only problem I had with RCT2 was the ability to watch the world from every angle and thats fixed with RCT3.

But...

When I tried to crate my own custom coaster I ran into a flaw that makes the game utterly useless (at least for me). I created a new coaster next to one of the hills in the demo. My thought was to make the drop go through a tunnel in the hill. I really love to use tunnels to spice up coasters. But when i tried to just cut through the terrain like in RCT2 it wouldn't let me. So I tried on a flat piece of land and it didnt work there either. So I finally raised the land (like in RCT2) to give the coaster a clean terrain wall to go through when entering the tunnel. BUT IT DIDNT LET ME DO THAT EITHER![:(]

Then I started to get worried.

So I checked out all the previews and screenshots that a lot of gamers sites has put up on the game. And not in one of the screenshots do you see a tunnel!!

So I am wondering. Is there anyone out there playing with the demo that has managed to create a tunnel?

If you cant make tunnels the game is flawed in my eyes and I will just keep on playing with RCT2 as tunnels is so much fun.[}:)]

Make tunnels useing wall peices. not that hard.

And the feature might be turned off becuase it is a "DEMO"!

Its true!!!

Found the following text in the official FAQ:

6.5 - Tunnels will not be available in the initial version do to time constraints in the program features reaching the market The following comments are by Frontier Founder David Braben.

"Tunnels

This applies to both the demo, and the full game.

Most tunnels in real life parks are simply covered-over cuttings, and you CAN do these. What you can't do is general through-the-mountain type tunnels, and the reason for this is we only wanted to do them if we could do them well.

The main problem with building underground is getting the camera to work well, but also there is the problem of excavation of the area that's being built in - if things like underground paths, stations or shops are allowed.

Tunnel entrances and exits also present problems with the flexible terrain - both while building them, and afterwards if you want to alter the terrain.

Overall, we felt that the disproportionate amount of work required to address these issues (and others like underground lighting) was better spent elsewhere - for example on making all the rides ridable rather than just the coasters - which is only one of the things done with the time saved.

It is always a difficult decision to prioritise one feature over another, but I hope you think we made the right choice = and it doesn't mean we won't do through-the-mountain tunnels in the future."

And yes, this is something to get worked up on!! How many times havent you put a nice loop underground so the top half goes over a walkway?
How many times havent you put walkways through hills to shorten distances and save space. To not be able to make tunnels when it was so easy in RCT2 is a major flaw. Sorry Frontier but I will not buy RCT3 until you fix this. As they say, they may fix this later. Until then you will not get my money.

Damn! I was really looking forward to this game.

Get over the tunnels! But one thing, they might be easily able to allow "quick tunnels", something that automatically covers certain track peices to your specifications, but not underground. You can do similar things with scenery, but it takes time to and doesn't look good. Also, this should be like how NL did theirs, but easier because of limited track control. BTW, I set my dtail settings up to the max, but that 90 degree turn on the invert was still lacking in curvature detail. And also, I didn't see very much new track pieces like being able to define the size of a transition to reduce unecesary g forces. That's the major flaw in the game. (one of them actaully.) But I can get over underground tunnels. It doesn't feel much different than a regular tunnel. BTW, if you really want to get har core, you can actually make something that looks like it. Just cover the canyon with block bases that float in the air, user vertical edges BTW, and after that, the only thing missing is the texturing, lol.

You can't build any paths underground? Wow that sucks.

having no tunnels is going to really hinder the game when designing a park on a hilly terrain...

Well thats very stupid. I think all demos should be the full releases with time limits. Why the hell do they have to cut all the good features and that means you have to play around with the shell of the game which i think is dissapointing. Anyways i think the game is horribly crap so i wont be rushing out to the stores to buy this one.

What! No tunnels! Do then know that tunnels are one of the most important features of RCT? How the hell could they take it out!?

How can they give us the full release with time limits when they're not even done with the damn thing. They have like two more months to get everything worked out based off of feedback they get from the demo.
And people, THERE ARE TUNNELS (using wall pieces and such.) Just not underground building. Good lord people, appreciate all the other cool features that they are including. There is definetly quite a few bugs that need ironing out before the release, namely camera issues, but hopefully they'll be resolved for the final release. So far, the demo should give you an idea of the potential of this game when it's released. I for one was very impressed. Looking beyond some flaws of course. But overall, it's pretty cool.
I am dissapointed that you can't "walk" through the park. You have to manipulate the camera forever just to get a good view close up. I was frustrated by all the struggling and wrestling I had to do with the camera to get the view I wanted. I'm hoping, if nothing else, that they fix this issue.

^ditto.

BTW, you can get a good view by setting things to fly view. At first, I thought you ment "walk" as in something that let's you wander the park like a guest and stuff.

No I do mean walk. As in Hyper Rails walking. I think the original camera is best. It gives me the views I want without "cutting" through objects that don't even seem to be close.

and "X"

RCT3 is far from being crap. I think they really have something here. As with any new software, there will be bugs to iron out. Nothing is perfect the first time around. There is great potential with this game and I think they're heading in the right direction. You want crap? Go play some STP.

Look on the bright side guys....You can now submerge your coaster tracks under water. I made a small wood water coaster earlier and noticed the nice splashing effect as the train passed thru it.

I thought I'd post a screenie of my mini water woodie coaster...

On the other hand, about the tunnels, I'll probably end up using scenary to tunnel track sections but hopefully the underground tunnel will be added along with a peep cam so we can walk around in our park.
