Well, for the lighning, we could use some very large resistors. Resistors would dissapate the electricity of the lighning in the form of heat. We could use the heat to boil water and make steam. The steam powers a turbine, which spins a magnet through an electrical field creating electricity.
I dont know what you just said, but there was steam engined cars along time ago, i saw a show and this guy has a steam engined car.

Well most electrcity runs of this same pricipal. Basically something heats water it turns a magnet, and wahlah electricity. I know it's used in Coal burning, nueclear, and hydroelectric plants use the same concept, but with flowing water providing the turbines with motion.

Water-Life's best way to make electrical energy, with assistance in some places of course.

I don't know if anyone noticed but the ads from google at the bottom of the page all have to do with gas and power.

Hydrogen power? The first problem is you will need a fusion reactor to get energy from water. We only have Fission reactors at the moment and the only fusion generator we have is the sun itself. I believe the process involoes heating hydrogen atoms to 3 million degrees celcious to release pure energy....I dont think that having a fusion reactor in your car would be a whole lot of good to be honest. I remember readin about it that Japan were looking to build a fusion reactor

Uh, it doesn't take nuclear fusion to get energy from Hydrogen. It is the completely normal reaction of Hydrogen with Oxygen, to form water, that will be using Hydrogen for power. And that reaction only requires a temperature of about 176 degrees Fahrenheit, or 80 degrees Celcius.

To initiate reaction of Hydrogen with Oxygen, you have to heat them to about 600*C! (2 parts of Hydrogen and 1 part of Oxygen) But, if there's smaller amount of Hydrogen or Oxygen, you have to heat them to higher temperature.

^The fuel cell does not involve combustion. It operates at a much lower temperature.

I don't know why we in canada have such high gas prices. We have oil in our own country that wasn't effected by the storm, people are saying 'supply and demand", what BS. Gas has gone up to 1.33$ at the gas station across the road. And my dad has a jeep that eats gas like a monkey to a bannana.

^Because the Canadian oil industry needs a big kick in the ass! We have tons of oil out in Alberta and probably up in the Artic, but once we drill it, we sell alot of it down into the USA, where we then buy it back for more money than what we sold it for.
We need to just keep our own oil in our own country so we don't have to keep handing out money to the American oil refineries just to buy back our own fuel. And Canada also needs to do something about the 'gas tax'. Our gas tax makes up probably 35-50% of the price you see at the fuel pump.

Right now, here in pensacola fl, gas prices range between $2.55-$2.65, mabye even higher, it just depends on the station you go to. But because we are getting so little gas down here right now, when we do get gas, its only in a few gas stations and there is always a line. Pensacola is located next to the Alabama/FL state line heading west toward mobile. I am sure that gas prices here will keep going up. pensacola and other cities are getting people from mississippi and some form alabama coming over to fl looking for gas. some of them are carrying several big gallon cans.

Today I say someone from mississippi carrying about 9 55 gallon barrels riding around looking for gas. Whats going to be really bad is if(I hope not) we get another hurricane coming this direction, even if it doesnt hit us, people here will be panicing for gas, and dry watever is left of gas. and if we do get hit, then those without gas, which will probably be a lot of people, will probably try to steal gas from others, and vehicles, and other means. We dont need another hurricane to enter the gulf, otherwise there will be pandamondium and mayham across the areas of the gulf cost that were hit and were affected by the two that hit the gulfcoast this year. Dennis and Katrina.

Really, In georgia, i saw a sign on the news that had a price posted as $5.98 - Now that is stupid, i hate these prices.

I have a few cents to throw in on this topic.

First of all, this hydrogen stuff you guys speak of... It isn't gonna happen during our lifetime, so keep dreaming.

Bio-diesel and ethanol can be run in all the current vehicles with minor modifications, there is no way switching to hydrogen fuel cells would work economically. Everyone has to buy a new car? Probably not. Everyone has to take their car in, get some updates done to the fuel injection system, then they can run high amounts of ethanol... that seems a lot more likely. Ethanol is also "environmentally friendly" and it's re-newable. Same with Bio-Diesel. Oilseed sunflowers have a 60% oil content, you can make a lot of diesel fuel with a 2000 lb/acre crop of sunflowers. Not to mention canola and soybeans are also loaded with oil that can be used for diesel.

That's just what I think, I could be wrong but it doesn't seem likely they are going to phase out the internal combustion engine for the likes of a fuel cell when it's so easy to make a fuel that will run in today's cars. Everyone always said that it costs too much to refine grain into bio-diesel and ethanol fuels, but with regular gas and diesel hitting 3 to 4 bucks a gallon, it suddenly makes sense.

Anyway, being a farmer that's what I'd like to see. Maybe then I could cash in on everyone's need to drive [:D].

As for the current fuel price hike, it's a piss off, but I know the hurricane is the main cause, but it's also a long weekend, where they always jack the price of gas up and I'm definately sure that greed does take a toll here, maybe not the whole reason for the big price hike is the hurricane, no doubt they are using it as an excuse to put extra $$$ in their pockets.

As for city folks whining about the price of driving their 12 mpg SUV's to the store, go screw yourself. You could go buy a small vehicle that gets 30 to 40 mpg and you could shut the hell up. The people who have the main right to bitch are those who rely on fuel for their businesses. Airlines, freight (trains, trucks etc...), shipping, construction, farming.... You whine about an extra 10 or 15 bucks a week to fill your Escalade or Hummer... It's costing us on the farm damn near $250 a day MORE PER MACHINE because of this hike. Now think of 2 combines, 3 trucks, 3 tractors all burning 10 to 13 gallons per hour for 14 hours a day at 3 bucks a gallon. Now we can't exactly "cut back" on our fuel use, those things have to run, otherwise we have no business.

So don't take this wrong, I'm just as annoyed as the next guy about the price of fuel, but we just suck it up and pay it. I'm not complaining. It sucks, but that's life. I hate the kids whining about filling their honda civics and bitching about an extra few dollars it costs. Get a clue.

$1.20 a liter not a gallon ... means about $4.50 a gallon

Finland measures their gas in liters as well... I think all of Europe does.

The usa is one of the countries, that does not use the "Metric System," we use to count gas in gallons, when other countries would count in liters, confusing yes.

that's because labor day is past, refineries have recovered somewhat and gas companies have the common sense to lower prices to avoid all the crap from people.
