THEY NED TO MAKE RCT4 WILL THEY MAKE RTC4 THEY SHUD-

Err... yeah, there's actually talk of an RCT4 going around. Hopefully it's not simply an Atari Community administrator dicking around though.

http://forums.atari.com/showthread.php?t=6853

This is their chance to make something out of RCT; make it a true amusement/theme park experience. People always assume that it has to be a game or a simulator, not both. Either you give the proper coaster building tools or make it easier for n00bs to learn, but both? Nah, impossible.

Oh really? Last time I checked, RCT3 had an advanced particle editor and attrack sequence editor for editing particle effects on Mixmaster shows and creating camera routes for videos and no one complained how the Mixmaster interface was too difficult to use. Likewise, RCT4 can give robust coaster construction; everything from control point building to FVD's and other formula driven coaster building tech. The key is to make the interfaces user friendly and to give users the basic track piece placement system before they get to advanced options. Then when it comes time to upload to the exchange, we can slam the new users for building out of prefabs just like we already do for NL. The point is, they can make an RCT that appeals to everyone, from the most n00bish of RCT users and RCT classic fans to actual coaster enthusiasts who'd like to see coasters in RCT that are actually ridable.

Unfortunately, reality has to set in. Developing the ideal RCT will take good planning, research, and development and we all know in the past that that has never been the case. Thus I'm not expecting RCT4 to be very amazing, but I'd be hopeful for it to be better than RCT3.

That said, the RCT3 community has come a long way. Custom scenery became custom animated scenery, then custom flat rides and now, custom track pieces are even in the works. Of course, no custom solution can remotely rival NL's capabilities, but the RCT3 community is very well alive and working on some amazing stuff.

Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds the announcing of an RCT4 rather odd. Atari has been having financial problems and definitely had RCT trademark issues with Chris Sawyer. Plus we still have no clue who the developer is and whether they're competent enough to handle an RCT. Even though RCT3 turned out less than favorable to most people, it was a tough job to do a program/game of that scale and I think Frontier definitely did a fair job considering what they had to work with.

Maybe RCT4 will turn out disappointing, but I think there's a fair enough chance that it'll actually be decent.

Dude, thanks a lot. You made me facepalm when I read the topic name. But seriously, even if they are going to develop a RCT4, if it's in this stage, I'd say it would probably hit shelved around 2012 at the Earliest. That is, if they plan on taking their time and actually doing it right, not some hunk of crap similar to RCT3.

I nearly facepalmed myself when I first saw the topic on NLE.

Release date or even year means nothing to me now. All that matters now is that they have a solid development team and plan who will get the job done well. Either way, I'd rather see a good RCT release in 2015 than a bad one release in 2013 but they probably can't afford to spend that much time on development anyway.

2012 is a good estimate though, given a full team and that they're in planning stages at the moment. Of course, by that time we'll most likely have NL2 which will likely raise the bar quite high.

ah man, awsome! I'll only be looking for two things:

1. MAC VERSION!
2. No grid.

I'd rather keep the grid. A grid with customizable snaps and the ability to turn it off that is. =p

My entire "wishlist" for RCT4 can be summed up in this; an RCT4 that appeals to:

Gamers
Classic RCT fans
Serious coaster enthusiasts
Imagineer-type builders

The latter two being the most demanding to appease. Lots of people go in both categories as evidenced by some amazing NL tracks that have came around over the time. (*ahem Thunderhead Falls) An RCT that not only lets you build a truly sensational and detailed theme/amusement park but one that also lets you explore and experience it to the full potential that software can do. What benefit does that have to the general public? (the largest group of people who would buy RCT in the first place and generally don't care to make amazing rides) They will see more amazing creations on youtube and more will be inspired to build something more than the average RCT track.

Of course, I suspect that development limitations won't allow much of that to happen, but many of RCT3's limitations also caused bad optimization; track pieces and building pieces in particular used far more polygons than necessary. The light sourcing was also a huge problem in RCT3 as well and still causes modern computer graphics cards to plummet on framerates.

It'll be the same crappy disappointment or worse. They didn't bother to check out the fans suggestions before. Why would they change now?

^ They didn't check the fans suggestions before, and look how it turned out. Maybe they will now seeing the disappointment RCT3 brought.

At this point I don't care too much for it though I won't completely dismiss it at this point since I think there's a chance that it may actually turn out to be decent. There's way too little information right now to know anyways.

OK, I am tired of all these rumors. Youtube has fanboy teaser trailers, all the coaster forums have rumors of it, I am not gonna get my hopes up for anything until there is solid proof of the game being developed

Actually, LOEA I don't think it is a dead topic since the rumors are non-stop, as long as there is speculation, this will be an ongoing topic, plus, this can be re-used again if RCT4 does indeed come into fruition.

well in regard to that, yes I agree, but in general, as long as you have something more intelligent to say keep posting.

Well IGN plus an admin from the Atari boards is good enough for me to know that its definitely happening. As of now, that thread has 137 pages.

What we can't judge at the moment is how it'll likely turn out. Its easy to assume that it'll be another RCT3 but I think there's a possibility that it can be better. Of course, once screenshots are released, a direction for where its headed will be better known.

We have enough to confirm that its happening, but any speculation on how it'll turn out is fairly worthless right now.

I would love to see a NL RCT3 hybrid. Part of the attraction for me is not only building a theme park, but watching the peeps react to it, and then mowing them down in the time honored tradition of PEEP BOWLING!!!!
