THEY NED TO MAKE RCT4 WILL THEY MAKE RTC4 THEY SHUD-
Err... yeah, there's actually talk of an RCT4 going around. Hopefully it's not simply an Atari Community administrator dicking around though.

This is their chance to make something out of RCT; make it a true amusement/theme park experience. People always assume that it has to be a game or a simulator, not both. Either you give the proper coaster building tools or make it easier for n00bs to learn, but both? Nah, impossible.
Oh really? Last time I checked, RCT3 had an advanced particle editor and attrack sequence editor for editing particle effects on Mixmaster shows and creating camera routes for videos and no one complained how the Mixmaster interface was too difficult to use. Likewise, RCT4 can give robust coaster construction; everything from control point building to FVD's and other formula driven coaster building tech. The key is to make the interfaces user friendly and to give users the basic track piece placement system before they get to advanced options. Then when it comes time to upload to the exchange, we can slam the new users for building out of prefabs just like we already do for NL. The point is, they can make an RCT that appeals to everyone, from the most n00bish of RCT users and RCT classic fans to actual coaster enthusiasts who'd like to see coasters in RCT that are actually ridable.
Unfortunately, reality has to set in. Developing the ideal RCT will take good planning, research, and development and we all know in the past that that has never been the case. Thus I'm not expecting RCT4 to be very amazing, but I'd be hopeful for it to be better than RCT3.
That said, the RCT3 community has come a long way. Custom scenery became custom animated scenery, then custom flat rides and now, custom track pieces are even in the works. Of course, no custom solution can remotely rival NL's capabilities, but the RCT3 community is very well alive and working on some amazing stuff.
Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds the announcing of an RCT4 rather odd. Atari has been having financial problems and definitely had RCT trademark issues with Chris Sawyer. Plus we still have no clue who the developer is and whether they're competent enough to handle an RCT. Even though RCT3 turned out less than favorable to most people, it was a tough job to do a program/game of that scale and I think Frontier definitely did a fair job considering what they had to work with.
Maybe RCT4 will turn out disappointing, but I think there's a fair enough chance that it'll actually be decent.
