Kings Island has shut down the Son of Beast roller coaster amid a state investigation.

The Ohio Agriculture Department, which oversees amusement park ride safety, confirms an investigation is underway into something involving the ride.

The state will not say what sparked the probe.

A spokesperson for the state does confirm the ride was shutdown voluntarily by the park.

Calls placed to Kings Island within the last half hour have not yet been returned.

ragan, I remember when I first rode it, I loved it! The loop was fun and those helices always had me coming back for more. I hope this ride doesn't stay closed for too long.
Oh, were you expecting something here?

They should just cut their losses and remove this thing It doesn't seem like it will ever be problem free

I can honestly say I never rode it, but if you have a ride that has this much problems over the years, it dont take a rocket scientist to figure out to remove it! Why I must say this agian from one of the other threads, Where are peoples heads when making these important decisions......

It's been reported on another site that SOB merchandise is on clearance at the park including t-shirts for $2.50. Perhaps a sign?

my thought is that are getting new trains that might help the "roughness" problem.

I'd hate to sound grim, but I think its the end for this great ride. Jeez, if this is true, then two legends die this year! Big Bad Wolf (1984-2009( and Son of beast (2000-2009?)

Nope, SOB received new trains after the loop was removed.

Two legends? This is one of the worst coasters ever made.....and it's only reputation was for being so.

I second that. SoB is FAR from a legendary coaster.

Yes the ride was rough, but I was smiling the entire time and loved it even though I never rode it with the loop. I sure hope it stays. I still think despite the roughness it deserves better because it marked a milestone in coaster history (even though we now know hyper-woodies don't work too well) even though it may not be as uccessful as planned.

This thing could potentially be a big profit for the park, IF it were removed. I mean, look at all that wood that could be recylced! [:)]

please explain how SoB's drop was wonderful... The loop just made the ride so much more horrible. That does not equate to anywhere near being legendary. This ride was just too tall and rough for it's own good.

I've heard that it was closed due to deaths from internal head injuries. And I'm not kidding. It may not be true, but it's what I've heard rumored.

^Damn! I never rode it, but is it really rough enough
to cause fatal internal injuries?

^ not true. i bet the ride stays with some modifications. the only rough part of the ride was the double helix. fix that and you fix the ride for the most part. but until that happens we'll still have the back and forth of "the ride sucks" and " the ride was amazing despite the roughness".... let the madness begin
