From Kings island Facebook page....

"After a lengthy evaluation of all alternatives, the decision has been made to remove the Son of Beast roller coaster to make room for future park expansion. The dismantling of the ride, which last operated in 2009, will begin later this summer."

Truthfully, I'm glad to see it go. It hasn't operated in years, so it'll be good to have something there that runs. I make trips out to Indiana every couple years and hit up Holiday World, Cedar Point, and Kings Island. Now Holiday World just needs a new coaster and I'm all set. [:D]

I'm not suprised, but honestly it was a fun ride. I hope whatever they put there fills the skyline as much as it did.

There's a lot of wood to work with, do you think they'll just send of the wood to be used to make newer coasters? Or are they going to just trash it?

The wood will probably just be recycled so the park can say they've gone green.

Don't count on anything wooden replacing it, lol. I think a record-breaking dive coaster would be a good fit too. Tallest, fastest, most inversions, that whole bit. I'd like to see another giga from Intamin but I think it's highly unlikely because of Diamondback, and more importantly proximity to Millennium Force. Also, I get the feeling Intamin may be on probation with Cedar Fair after the issues with I305, Shoot the Rapids, and Maverick.

Yeah, but I feel a "revived" Son Of Beast shouldn't be a steel-smooth ride. I would prefer a sequel to The Beast (if there ever will be one) to be a sort-of out of control ride like The Beast is, without going overboard with the roughness (obviously).

Good riddance to bad poopty. I mean, the only thing that really defined that ride was it's loop, and that got neutered by Bob Barker. It was a waste of space, and while yeah, for that first season, it may have rocked, but, after that, who cared? At the end of it's opening day, there were still more woodies more worth riding than SoB.

Still though, thats a lot of wood. Chances are most of it isn't salvagable in the long run, but I agree with Krazy, hopefully the wood is at least recycled for a future something.

This, like all other sequels, was a bad idea. The concept of SoB is terrible; 200' wooden looping coaster? The first drop was the only thing that looked good on it. I just hope KI has learned their lesson and makes a worthwhile replacement

Definitely not a new woodie for KI, but I was saying they MUST use that wood for something. Somewhere on this Earth.

Doesn't anyone think this incident seems to be like The Bat #2?

Such a shame this coaster didn't end up like it was supposed to be. Perhaps KI should have gone with Intamin or CCI for this ride.

I am sure that they did consider it, but I guess taking it down is better for the park in the long run.

Finally, that piece of poop is being destroyed. I've been suggesting this to my friends for years. When SoB opened and I was, what, 8? 10?, I loved it because "OH MY GOD I JUST RODE A 200 FOOT TALL WOODEN ROLLER COASTER THAT WENT UPSIDE DOWN OH MY GOD", but when I came back to ride it when I was 15 or 16, with the loop gone it was just a mass of wood that went really fast and gave you bruises. I'm more than happy to see it go, and I'm sure that whatever replaces it will be a world-class attraction.

Never got a ride...

-Intamin Giga
-Intamin Lim/LSM Style (think Maverick)
-B&M Giga
-B&M Wing Rider
-B&M Dive Coaster
-B&M Floorless
-B&M Iverted

That is the list of rides you will see in it's place, if not 2 or 3 of the above as the location is huge.

Crypt and Bat were because of breakdowns, wtf are you guys talking about. SoB just had a bad rep because of the loop.
