I know it would be alot of work to do, but wouldn't it be awesome if there was an option to elimiate lat forces in certain parts of the track when heartline-based building?

^eliminating lats isn't all that hard.

If you bank that node at 0 degrees, and then use this formula:

banking = arctan(Lat/Vert)

or if you don't get that what hyyyper said (like me) use the 'banking to eliminate lateral forces' calculator here

i think it calculates what hyyyper just said.

I must admit, it's very encouraging to hear Ole say that smoothing a coaster by hand is long and tedious work in NL1 and that he's making it a much easier, faster process in NL2. I find that my spare time is very limited and my patience wears thin as well when trying to smooth out a ride. This is great news for me!

One thing I'd love is for steel coasters to get an auto-generated support system the way woodies do. Sure, every auto-gen supported coaster will need to have some things tweaked to make it look better, but being able to click something and have 90% or so of the tedium of placing supports done would be fantastic. I can't tell you how many tracks I've done that are just tracks hanging in mid-air because I just don't have the time or the desire to place all those nodes and supports.
My body isn't a temple. It's an amusement park.

^Me too on the new smoothing features. The only reason I can see for not having touched the editor in months is that it's too time consuming. I really can't wait for NL2 to be out so I can hopefully get back into it.

Something on HyperRails that I liked was...
You have a node and you want the next node to be straight in front of it but you were turned at an angle (not perpendicular to X or Y), you could do like CAD/Microstation and build a length of track 100' long then move it up or down.
Oh yeah, that brings something else up.
Locking a node in the X and Y directions so you can just move it vertically (if you dont want to type in the elevation/position)

i looked through this topic and didnt see this but forgive me if it was brought up previously. I cannot wait for NLT2

Keep in mind that it's not developed by a big studio. It's just Ole and a small group of people working on it. You should've known that already since it's been said here countless times. If you did and you're still complaining, well, go find something else to do and stop whining.

I just realized how ridiculous the Exchange is going to be the first month or so that NL2 is released, with people converting abandoned designs to slightly better fitting types that only come with NL2 and calling them the "first ____ uploaded to CoasterCrazy!" [lol]

Well come to think of it, does anyone know if NL1 designs will be compatible or able to switch types with NL2 types? I'm under the impression NL2 is going to be a completely different program aside NL1.

The downside is that all the new features ask for a new track format which will not have much in common with the current NL1 track format. At this point, it is unsure how compatible NL1 tracks will be with the new format, all I can say at this point is that there will be a NL1 track import feature, but haven't coded that yet and I do not know how well NL1 tracks might be represented in the new engine. On your next upload we should be able to have two coasters on one saved file so we can make seperate dueling coasters

Hmmm... I wonder why ole hasn't given an update in like 2-3 months. I thought he was going to continue with Monthly updates. Apparently he stopped with it in December...

As much as I hate to say it I've only just come back to using NL after a year or so out. (i have no excuse) so awesome to hear there's a new version in the pipeline. :)

Don't suppose there will be a discount for people who bought NL1? haha, always worth asking.

^Uhh... okay..

Most designers prefer to customize their tunnels, adding whatever they like to them, using their favorite 3Ds programs. Same goes for buildings, stations, ect.

what i think would be a bonus in NL2

- Transfer tracks
- customizing trains
- customizing tracks to make them multi coloured in a short amount of time
- Even smaller tubes and wooden supports to create smaller objects (hand made objects done in the editer EX. Catwalks ect. )
- Better designed stations
- Improved inversions
- DIVE MACHINES AND NEWWER COASTERS LIKE THE BALL COASTER
- concreat slabs (many sizes)
- to be able to make coasters way smoother by hand

These are all dreams and maybe some with come true :)
