Just going to put something out in the open. Possibly for gazag but maybe not. I have actually convinced people with the following.

Most programs on a desktop are shortcuts, correct. They are called shortcuts for a reason. When you have a cluttered desktop, with say 3+ rows of icons. It sort of defeats the purpose of a shortcut and eventually makes it harder to navigate what was intentionally meant to be easier. A shortcut is a shortcut, leave it at that. Folders on a desktop, example, "pics", should just go in the pictures section of my documents? Just about any folder you could make already has a proper place to be. If it doesn't, make a new one in my documents. All in all when you keep up with simple organizing you should only have 1, maybe 2 rows max of icons. Thus, keeping it 'easy' to navigate and use shortcuts, as well as 'other' folders full of who knows what! It also gives a much cleaner feel to the desktop itself and allows for the wallpaper to actually be seen. [/over exaggerated truth] Just my opinion though, my friend Dane actually prefers a messy desktop. If only I could show you his, their isn't an open space on the thing.

I recommend keep any folders named "Animal fighting" or "Elephants at play" away from sight. [;)][lol]
