why do you even have a computer in the first place

what purpose as humans do we see an exrternal synthetic brain serving in our lives? really, when one thinks about it we'd all be just fine if there weren't ever any computers. but obviously everyone here has one. even me... even five years ago i was mr. "i'll NEVER own a computer, why should i?" [lol][lol]that all changed in 2001 when one inadvertently entered my home when i let my freind stay at my house.. he insisted that i navigate away from my 4track tape recording and try cakewalk.. not to mention the internet.. i was hoooked. that computer was a 166 and i thought i really hit paydirt when i got his next peice of crap 266 i didn't know SQUAT about computers, but soon i realized that mine sucked!
that's because i found no limits, and it wouldn't run on my computer, so i bought a 900 board offa a freind and for awhile i was stoked.. after awhile, that wasn't cool either so i went to fry's.... over and over and over again till this computer , which has pretty much run trouble free(meaning no flames or wierd odors, i'm sure everything i went through would be considered a "problem' to most computer savy people)since 2003. i've used it mostly to do three things.... !
1..i've recorded hours and hours of music on this computer, it has always served me well here, and my fourtracks are in a trunk in the closet.
2.. believe it or not no limits actually got me into computers. once i saw a full 3d rollercoaster sim was available i vowed to eventually own a computer that would handle it.. mine does now.. barely.
3.. the internet, so i can bore people i don't even really know with boring stuff.
but i know it was invented for way more than some wierd bohemian freak like me to record music and build imaginary rollercoasters..
oh yeah and watch dvds.. and play atari games ...um.. write papers and make funny stuff out of pictures..
what do you guys use your computers for..? tj ought to have a great answer..[:D] but really . i feel as if i could get a lot more out of it..

1. socializing, i guess, i don't do it that much.

2. like jayman, i have a lot of music from my bands and solo projects on here that i have no clue what to do with

3. digital art. i love to mess around with photoshop and other stuff.

and that's pretty much it. i don't play many games on it...and every so often i look up movies and post on imdb.[:)]

1. Socializing, I'm always on AIM, I talk alot, prolly to much

2. Gaming, so many games, right now mostly AoE3 and RCT3. I guess NL falls into this category too.

3. Hobby, I like computers, I like building them and keeping up with the technology in general.

4. Music, I don't record my own, but I'm always "sharing", downloading and listening to music.

5. Internet, basic usage for forums and community participation along with email and downloads.

6. Homework, I use it to type things, research, ect.

Those of course aren't in any particular order, most of them are equally important.

Where to start...

RCT3, No Limits, various other games, make games, make programs, school work, make pictures in MS paint, design and build pc's, Maya animations; and models, saving whatever ideas, memories I have so I can think about other things in my life, talk with friends, do research on various stuff, watch movies and videos, listen to music, make videos, and probably 200 other things

The only thing I don't do is make music.

If I didn't have a computer I would probably go crazy, well actually I don't know what I would do.

I use it for hookups. I meet lots of interesting people online, and some of them have become really good friends. When I take coaster trips, I almost never pay for a hotel room, because I just let my online buddies know I'm coming to their town and they say "hey, you can stay here!"

Oh, and NL and email and stuff.

Type up essays....?
No really, all sorts of things - web serving, typing stuff, presentations, instant messaging, emailing, programming, gaming (w00t for LAN parties), coasting designing, CAD (computer-aided-design)...all sorts of stuff.

Those were my first focuses when I originaly got my 400 mhz Emachine in 98.
But soon after I found No Limits when trying to find RCT tracks, and so then that became another use.
Eventually no limits lead me to using the forums, so now I use that as well.
Also, I use the internet to talk on MSN and AIM (although not as much as I used to)
And I also use it for video editing.[:D]

Im surprised no one, especially considering this site, has answered with that 4 letter word.

As for me, school is always first when it comes to the comp. Wether its research, excel, or typing, Im always doing it to improve my work. Second is socializing. AIM is the best example of this. Last but not least is gaming, which I don't too much of. I play NL all the time now, and it's taken over so much I haven't touched rct3 since November.

LOL^. I was thinking the same thing jake.

I use my comp mostly for:

-socialization, AIM...Forums...Emails. Its awesome.
-researching music and whatnot on the net, it really can just pass the time.
-Music library, Ipod...
-Games, I play very few games, mostly NL. Sometimes phases of CS, HL2, BF, GTA, Stuff like that.

so yea I got into computers just cause I thought they were cool. but now I realize how fast the world moves with the speed of the internet. it moves a bit too fast imo

The two main things that drive technology are porn and the military.

1. Social stuff like MSN Messenger, forums and Skype.

2. Games. I play Battlefield 2, CS 1.6, CS:S, DoD:S, AoE3 sometimes and few other.

3. Photoshop :thumbup:

Are you forgetting the new Video ipods SMer? Video phones aswell? Most people seem to have porn on them too
