I think this might actually be a good thing. Summers/Dinn coasters don't age well, and although Texas Giant was once one of the greatest wood coasters in the world, it's just gotten too rough recently, and has lost its full potential. A re-tracking by GCI might just remedy that, and bring it back to its former glory. I'm expecting wonders.

I wish they would keep "Texas Giant" as the name of the coaster. It just fits the ride and everyone knows it as that. Why can't they just be like "the new, the better, the more exciting Texas Giant" or something with the original name in it.

NOT another standard six flags name. Texas Giant was an original name, and let's keep it that way. I will be mad if they change it into something like Bizzaro or Terminator.

The park said this weekend the ride will be taller, faster, and steeper than before. Also, it will be using a new technology never used before that involves some sort of pre-fab "spine" for the track "like B&M." It will be a wood coaster however.

The park said they will release who is doing the change and all other details within 2 weeks.

I enjoyed my 10 or so rides on it this weekend!

That description does not make it sound like a refurbishment...

2011: Six Flags will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in style. One of the biggest additions will be the rehabilitation of the Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas. The $10 million project will include what sounds like a full rebuild of the ride's track, brand new trains by Gerstlauer, magnetic brakes, more airtime, and one of the steepest "banks" of any wooden coaster. The 'new' ride will have it's work done by Rocky Mountain Amusements, a company that helped build El Toro and has worked on several industry projects. The new Texas Giant will also be a more immersive experience, as riders will now find theming as part of the ride, especially in the queue area. A farewell party for the current ride will be held at the park the weekend of October 30th.

Damn it Gerstlauer, their steel coasters rock but their wooden coaster trains are just painful.

Hopefully not lol. Mammut looks like the ultimate family ride, but I don't think people don't want a family ride in Texas Giant. Either way doesn't matter to me...I'm 2/3 the country away. Rode the ride a few summers ago...it was ok, not good not terrible. I don't think this fix can hurt it much either way, even if they go the Mammut route.
